Teaching description
Good knowledge of history and of ancient architecture in Greek and Roman world; curiosity and critical attitude.
General description of the typology of ancient buildings, with particular reference to the principles of ancient building technique, aiming at a critical understanding of ancient constructions through the analysis of monumental structures, with specific reference to monuments of the Roman world.
Student will acquire good knowledge of ancient building technique, with reference to the various types of building, with specific reference to Roman monuments.
Lectures and Classes with the support of PPT presentations.
Module will be taught in a 4 week block mode and in presence.
Final Exam: This course will have a written final exam. The examination will evaluate students’ understanding of the material presented in the course, and of the assigned readings. Grading:
Grades will be determined according to the following breakdown: Attendance and courseworks: 40%
Final exam: 60%
The course will develop the study of the general principles of ancient building technique, for a critical understanding of ancient constructions through the analysis of monumental structures, with specific reference to the monuments of the Roman world. It will describe construction methodology and processes, as well as spatial interpretation of architectural complexes. It will also propose some principles of diagnostics applied to the analysis of ancient walls and buildings, in the context of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.
