Due gli indirizzi: uno relativo all’intelligenza artificiale ed uno relativo all’automazione per applicazioni industriali. Il primo indirizzo verte su analisi dei dati, apprendimento automatico, apprendimento statistico e computer vision. Il secondo sulla robotica per automazione industriale, sistemi distribuiti e reti di robot, ed infine realtà virtuale ed aumentata.

Course description

In order to be admitted to the Master's Degree Course in Computer Engineering, students must comply with curricular requirements, technical knowledge requirements and English language knowledge requirements, described in greater detail below. Applicants must possess a level of knowledge appropriate to the general educational objectives of the Bachelor's degree course in Computer Engineering (class 9 of Italian Ministerial Decree 509/1999 or class L-8 of Italian Ministerial Decree 270/2004), namely -possession of a first-level degree or a three-year university diploma or a second-level degree or a five-year degree issued by an Italian university or any other title formally recognised as equivalent to the previous listed ones; -possession of at least 40 university credits, or equivalent knowledge for students in possession of a foreign qualification, acquired by attending university courses (Bachelor's Degree, three-year University Diploma, Master's Degree, first- and second-level Master's Degree) in sectors recognised as basic training activities in the subject areas of the three-year Degrees pertaining to the Class of Computer Engineering; -possession of at least 60 university credits, or equivalent knowledge for students in possession of a foreign qualification, acquired in any university course (Bachelor's Degree, three-year University Diploma, Specialist Degree, Master's Degree, first- and second-level University Master's Degree) in the scientific-disciplinary sectors indicated for the core training activities in the subject areas of the three-year Degrees pertaining to the Class Information Engineering - passing an English language proficiency exam or English language certification equal to level B2, or higher, of the CEFR. This requirement is not required for native speakers. - be able to use the Italian language fluently in both written and oral form. This requirement is not required of mother-tongue students. In cases where the test is not positive, the student will have to acquire 'further linguistic knowledge' in the Italian language, for example through courses offered by the Scuola di Italiano per Stranieri. A special Commission will carry out the assessment of the personal preparation of students who meet the above-mentioned curricular requirements, in accordance with the procedures described in the Study Course Regulations.
Admission to the Master's Degree Course is by means of a compulsory test to assess individual preparation, consisting of an interview, which is a prerequisite for subsequent enrolment. In order to achieve the qualifying educational objectives of the Master's Degree Course in Computer Engineering, which stipulate that master's degree graduates must be able to use fluently, in written and oral form, at least one European Union language in addition to Italian, students intending to enrol must demonstrate possession of an adequate level of knowledge of English, at least level B2. All enrolled students in possession of a language certificate of level B2 or higher will be required to enclose a copy of the certificate among the documents required for enrolment. Candidates not in possession of certification may also demonstrate their linguistic competence by passing an appropriate examination at the University Language Centre. Native English-speaking candidates are exempt from producing the required certification and from passing the English language proficiency test. Failure to pass the test verifying the adequacy of individual preparation or the test verifying knowledge of the English language at level B2 does not permit enrolment. Following the completion of the test, students who have passed the aptitude test may enrol. The assessment tests, scheduled in accordance with the annual Announcement of Admission, must in any case be preceded, for each individual candidate, by verification of the existence of the envisaged curricular requirements. The Annual Announcement of Enrolment for the Course of Study will explain the procedures for any exemption from the test (interview) required for admission.

The Master's Degree Computer Engineering graduate carries out his or her professional activities in various fields, such as planning, analysis, design, testing, production, operation, adaptive and perfective evolution in private enterprises and public bodies that realise simple and complex products and services in the ICT sector or that make intensive use of information technology to support their production processes and work organisation. Master's graduates in Computer Engineering will be able to perform project management, analysis, development, integration and system validation activities in IT industries operating in the areas of hardware and software production; in industries for automation and robotics; in companies operating in the area of information services and computer networks; in IT service companies for private industry, citizens and public administration. Given the wide range of methods, techniques and systems covered by the course of studies, these professional outlets may concern both the local context (the Apulian computer industry) and a broader, national and international context.
The Master's degree course in Computer Engineering aims to deepen the various application areas of Computer Engineering. In this context, the following subjects are covered in depth - programming in the Unix environment - network programming; - big data; - internet of things, - computer security; - software engineering and cloud environments; - sequential and parallel algorithms; - computer networks. There are two addresses, one relating to artificial intelligence and one to automation for industrial applications. The first focus is on data analysis, machine learning, statistical learning and computer vision. The second focus is on robotics for industrial automation, distributed systems and robot networks, and virtual and augmented reality. On completion of their studies, graduates of the Master of Science in Computer Engineering degree course must - have a thorough knowledge of the theoretical-scientific aspects of engineering, both in general and in depth in relation to those of computer engineering, in which they are able to identify, formulate and solve, also in an innovative way, complex problems or problems requiring an interdisciplinary approach - be able to use their knowledge of the theoretical-scientific aspects of mathematics to interpret and describe engineering problems that are complex or require an interdisciplinary approach; - be able to conceive, plan, design, evaluate, validate and manage complex and/or innovative systems, processes and services; - be able to design and manage experiments of high complexity; - be equipped with contextual knowledge and transversal skills; - be able to use disciplinary lexicons correctly.
The final examination consists of the discussion of a paper that serves to prove possession of the skills required by the educational objectives assigned to the course of study. The paper proposed for the final examination, characterised by originality, always refers to a significant experience that may involve - a project activity - an in-depth study of a basic or applied research topic; - an experimental research activity carried out in university laboratories or at external organisations.
