Verification of personal preparation is foreseen. The assessment for admission to the master's degree course relates to sociological disciplines and the methodology of social research as well as interdisciplinary knowledge connected to economic, legal, political, and statistical disciplines. Basic knowledge of the English language is required.

Graduates of the classes listed below, as well as the corresponding classes relating to the D.M. 509/99, can access the master's degree course in Sociology and Social Research:

Regardless of the curricular requirements, all students will be subject to an assessment of their personal preparation, in the manner established in the academic Regulations of the course of study. Since the course has a strong international vocation, which is also reflected in the teaching programs, students should demonstrate at least basic knowledge of the English language

Graduates in the master's degree program have professional opportunities in social research activities, as well as in the management of public and private administrations. The master's degree, moreover, has particular relevance in the planning of public and social policies. Graduates in Sociology and Social Research have skills in managing and analizing social data, and in the design of public policies oriented by empirical research. On the basis of the student's curricular choice, the research and methodological skills acquired may be oriented either in the direction of the analysis and promotion of the territorial development, or in the analysis of deviant and criminal behavior.

Students who have already followed the course in Didactics of Human Sciences in the three-year course in Sociology (L-40), can complete the acquisition of the credits necessary for teaching in high school.

The master's degree program in Sociology and Social Research trains specialists with multidisciplinary skills, useful for the analysis and management of complex processes.

Student training takes place along four fundamental axes:

• the acquisition of theoretical skills in the sociological and philosophical fields, which provide tools and categories useful for the analysis of social phenomena;
• the development of empirical skills, connected with the ability to develop research designs, to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data and to analyze the latter using statistical skills;
• sociological skills on the analysis of territorial development processes (for students enrolled in the TERRITORIAL DEVELOPMENT AND DIDACTIC OF HUMAN SCIENCES curriculum);
• sociological, psychological, legal and anthropological skills for the analysis and understanding of deviant phenomena (for students enrolled in the curriculum in SOCIAL DEVIANCE AND CRIME)
• interdisciplinary skills as an indispensable complement for a non-naive analysis of social processes in advanced modernity.

The final exam should demonstrate the acquisition of skills relating to the subjects being studied. It consists of an oral discussion of a written paper on a theme agreed between the student and the supervisor, and congruent with the specific aims and contents of the degree course. The assessment takes into account - in addition to the quality of the paper and the final exam - the individual curriculum, and the marks obtained by the student in the exams. The degree thesis must be the result of an original research activity, carried out under the guidance of a supervisor, on issues related to the disciplines studied by the student in his training. The thesis is checked by a co-supervisor and discussed publicly in the presence of the graduation commission.
