Course description

Admission to the degree course requires an upper secondary school or equivalent qualification, adequate technical-scientific preparation to be verified by an admission test and initial knowledge of English. Students who, on the basis of the test results, do not achieve an adequate preparation will be assigned Additional Formative Obligations (OFAs) relating to the disciplines in which the student has gaps to be filled in the first year.
Admission to the Study Course is free. After enrolment, students must take an initial preparation test, in accordance with the provisions of the Access Notice/Admission Requirements and Regulations. The test tends to ascertain the possession of the basic scientific knowledge necessary for admission to the Degree Course in Engineering. Students who do not take the initial preparation test will be assigned all the Additional Educational Obligations (OFAs) envisaged by the Access Notice/Admission Requirements and Regulations. On the basis of the results of the initial preparation test, enrolled students will be assigned the Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) established by the Access Notice/Admission Requirements and Regulations. The OFAs will be associated with certain disciplines in the first year of the course. Students will be able to make up the OFAs by attending specific remedial courses organised by the Department of Innovation Engineering, by taking an OFA remedial test and through specific tests prepared by the teachers of the disciplines associated with the OFAs. These tests may be taken during the period dedicated to lectures or on the occasion of the corresponding profit-making examinations.

Industrial Engineer with skills related to the sustainability of production systems, mobility systems and complex products The professional figure of the Industrial Engineer has the skills and competences relating to 1) design single or assembled mechanical components in systems/machines with particular focus on their life cycle; 2) managing innovation projects, with particular focus on green economy issues; 3) managing energy and transport systems from a sustainable perspective; 4) designing production technologies and new materials with a view to sustainability. The figure of the Industrial Engineer in his studies has developed skills related to the management of innovation in the green economy, sustainable management of energy production and conversion, new technologies and new materials developed with a view to environmental sustainability, transport systems with particular reference to the aerospace sector. Job outlets of the three-year degree course can be manufacturing companies in the area and in the induced activities of Technology Districts such as: Dhitech (High Tech Tech District), Ditne (National Energy Technology District), DTA (Aerospace Technology District).
The degree course in Engineering for Sustainable Industry responds to the needs and expectations of the Brindisi area, where major industrial realities are located in the fields of energy mechanics of materials and aerospace. In addition, the degree course in Engineering for Sustainable Industry trains the engineer with a sound scientific basis, leaving the choice of specialisation in the various engineering sectors to be made afterwards, and is in line with the current trends that have emerged at national and local level, particularly for the sustainable development of industrial systems. The educational offer of the course of Engineering for Sustainable Industry, gives priority to the objective of providing students with a solid basic preparation in science and engineering, for the purpose of acquiring both the mental flexibility and the methods of study and work necessary for 1) the performance of the activity of a first-level engineer in the various fields in which his services may be required; 2) readily deal with and deepen the specialisation knowledge required for subsequent master's degrees.
The final examination consists of a thesis work carried out by the student on a topic forming part of the study plan. The dissertation is produced under the guidance of a lecturer-reporter, who proposes an evaluation at the end of the work. The final assessment is carried out, for each graduating student, by a degree committee in which the supervisor participates, also assessing the student's entire career. The grade awarded is announced at a public proclamation ceremony. Graduation assignments are managed entirely online via a special TOL (Thesis On Line) procedure, from the assignment of the thesis to the final examination.
