Course description

In order to be admitted to the degree course, the student must hold an upper secondary school diploma, as required by current legislation, or another qualification obtained abroad that is deemed suitable. Admission to the degree course is limited by the national admission scheme (Law no. 264 of 2 August 1999) and takes place by passing a multiple-choice written test. Each academic year the MUR issues a special decree establishing the admission procedures, including: the number of places, the contents of the notice issued by the university. The subjects covered by the examination are: general culture and logical reasoning, physics and mathematics, chemistry, biology. The Course's didactic organisation requires admitted students to have an adequate knowledge of the Italian language and initial preparation, achieved in their previous studies, in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. Students admitted to the degree course with a mark below a pre-established minimum threshold may be assigned specific additional training obligations; the methods for making up any training deficits, which must in any case be made up within the first year of the course, are governed by the Degree Course Regulations.
The number of places is set annually by decree of the Ministry for Universities and Research (MUR). Admission to the Course of Study is by means of a competitive examination, the date and procedures of which are defined annually by the MUR and published in a specific notice issued by the University. Therefore, enrolment in the Course is subject to passing the admission test (based on multiple-choice quizzes) and on the basis of the quota of places, indicated for each academic year on the admission notice. The methods and content of the test are established at ministerial level. The assessment of any Additional Formative Obligation (OFA) will be carried out taking into account the marks obtained by the candidates in the admission test. The procedures for ascertaining the fulfilment of the OFA will be indicated on the University website at the address below.

The nurse is the professional figure who works in the healthcare sector and is responsible for general nursing care of a technical, relational, educational nature aimed at the developmental, adult and geriatric age groups, for preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative aspects. The main functions are: disease prevention, care of the sick and disabled of all ages, health and therapeutic education. It acts both individually and in cooperation with other health and social workers. In order to perform its functions, it makes use of the work of support staff where necessary. The competences guaranteed at the end of the basic training are: planning, control and evaluation of nursing care, analysis of own training needs and use of research results to implement evidence-based nursing care. Within the scope of collaborative competences it ensures the correct implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic prescriptions. The qualification obtained at the end of the course of study with the passing of the final examination qualifies the holder to practise the profession of nurse, and enables the holder to carry out professional activities in public or private healthcare facilities, in the territory and at home under a dependent or freelance regime. In addition, it is also able to offer valuable support in particular services provided by pharmacies in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Degree Course in Nursing combines the knowledge of theoretical knowledge with practical training in the various care facilities, with the aim of training a professional with relevant skills, able to face and perform a fundamental service to the person and the community. The Study Course, which lasts three years and qualifies graduates to practice the profession, provides for programmed access and is regulated by an admission notice. In compliance with the legislation in force and consistent with what is set forth in the European Union directives regarding professional activities and responsibilities, the course aims to train healthcare professionals who autonomously carry out activities aimed at prevention, care, rehabilitation, palliation and the safeguarding of individual and collective health. The nurse participates in the recognition of the health needs of the individual and the community, formulates the relative objectives, plans, manages and evaluates the nursing care intervention; guarantees the correct application of diagnostic-therapeutic prescriptions; acts both individually and in cooperation with other health and social workers. The achievement of professional competences is implemented through a theoretical-practical training which includes the acquisition of behavioural competences, achieved in the specific work context, so as to guarantee, at the end of the training course, the full mastery of all the necessary competences and their immediate expendability in the work environment. The didactic activities, with compulsory attendance, are divided into 180 university training credits (CFU), according to a semester organisation that envisages theoretical, tutorial (Problem Based Learning, case method), professionalisation and individual study activities. The theoretical activities for both the basic and professional disciplines are supplemented by practical activities: seminars, workshops and internships. The internship, to be carried out in accredited healthcare facilities, accounts for a total of 60 CFU spread over the three years of the course. In order to deepen the theoretical-practical preparation, the Degree Course offers students the opportunity to participate in incoming and outgoing European projects (Erasmus Programmes). Graduates in Nursing can access post-baccalaureate university training (first-level master's degree and advanced training courses) and the Master's Degree Course in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences, Class LM/SNT1.
The final examination, which is valid as a State exam qualifying for the practice of the profession of nurse (Art. 7 D.I. 19 February 2010), consists of: 1) a practical test in the course of which the student must demonstrate that he/she possesses the knowledge and theoretical-practical and technical-operative skills typical of the professional profile 2) the drafting of a thesis and dissertation. The degree mark (from a minimum of 66 points to a maximum of 110, with possible honours) is awarded by a special Commission in public session. The contents and procedures for the organisation and conduct of the final examination, as well as the formation of the Commission in charge of it and the assessment criteria, are defined, in accordance with the regulations in force, in the Course of Study Regulations.
