Other useful information

Course description

Programmed, 180 places available. The admission onto theBiomedical Engineering degree programme is permitted after passing the TOLC-E online test, created by CISIA – the Inter-University Consortium for Integrated Admission Systems (www.cisiaonline.it).

Admission to the course requires a high school diploma or other equivalent and approved qualification obtained abroad. Students must possess adequate knowledge of basic mathematics, physics and chemistry, and at least level B2 proficiency in English. There are compulsory checks of possession of these requirements. The procedures for checking academic requirements are indicated in the Course Regulations, published on the university website, which establishes the additional learning requirements (OFAs) to be achieved in the first year of the course if the initial requirements are not met. For admissions English language at level B2, at least, is required.

The course is located at the Department od Engineering for Innovation, Campus Ecotekne, Via Monteroni 73100 - Lecce.

Graduate students in Biomedical Engineering will be able to operate in industry sectors, hospitals, health facilities and specialized clinical laboratories, and also in research centers and universities as a technical figure in laboratory contexts. This figure can be employed in the industry that deals with the production, management and testing of biomedical devices and equipment, devices for treatment and rehabilitation, as well as devices for controlled release. Furthermore, the biomedical engineer can be employed in the solution of methodological and technological problems, in the provision of health services and in the use of appropriate medical software for diagnostic assistance. Finally, the graduate in Biomedical Engineering can be employed as an engineer responsible for the technical support of quality services, safety, organization in the health sector.

The degree course in Biomedical Engineering will allow students to acquire and / or develop communicative-relational skills (i.e. reading, writing, listening and dialogue) by attending lectures, studying written texts proposed by teachers, targeted bibliographic research, and also through the attendance of seminars (provided by the teachers within the curricular activity). Furthermore, the student will be able to consolidate their linguistic knowledge, also with the use of English texts and will be able to relate fully, as well as in Italian, also in English. Communication skills, both written and oral, will be developed during the training activities, which include the preparation of reports, written documents and their oral presentation, but especially through exams and any ongoing tests. On such occasions, teachers will also take these aspects into account in the student's final evaluation. Further development of communication skills is also foreseen on the occasion of the drafting of the final paper.

The final exam consists of a thesis work carried out by the student on a topic part of the study plan. The workr is produced under the guidance of a supervisor, who at the end of the work proposes an evaluation. The final evaluation is carried out, for each graduate student, by a degree commission in which the supervisor participates, also evaluating the entire career of the graduate. The final vote assigned is communicated during a public proclamation ceremony. Graduation sessions are entirely managed online through a specific TOL (Thesis On Line) procedure, from the assignment of the thesis to the verbalization of the final exam.

The Bieongineering Course is newly activated. The University management is working to activate specific agreements with industries and research centers in order to provide connections both with academic and industrial entities.
