Basic knowledge of the legal field facilitates understanding

of the topics addressed in the course.

The teaching material provided will focus on the analysis of the complex regulatory framework of reference for Digital Heritage, looking at both the national legal system and the EU and international ones.

The teaching must be able to provide students with the legal notions necessary to guarantee the correct creation, research, use, conservation, dissemination and processing of digitalized cultural heritage data, relating to texts, audio and video content, to images, etc. The aim of the teaching becomes to provide students with a full mastery of technical terminology and an in-depth knowledge of the legal institutions inherent to the main IT-legal problems connected to the digitalisation of cultural heritage, such as: copyright protection, trade electronic of digitized goods, the possible cases related to the right to privacy, big data, and others. The Course offers useful knowledge for understanding the role of law in supporting activities related to the digitalisation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. This knowledge will be proposed both on the level of the analysis of the general legal principles of the system and on the more specific level relating to the in-depth analysis of the main legislation in force, that regulates the main problems connected to Digital Heritage.
It is considered essential to enable students to develop the ability to critically re-elaborate certain cases specific to the protection and valorisation of cultural heritage, in light of the changes brought about by the ever-increasing impact that new information and telematic technologies have on the sector. The study of the subjects of the Course will also allow students to develop independent judgement, through the development of useful topics to respond to the demands of today's reflection on the digitalisation of cultural heritage.
Students will acquire the ability to correctly frame the fundamental themes of this discipline also through the assimilation of technical-legal vocabulary, in order to know how to orient themselves in the context of the problems related to Digital Heritage.
