Course description

The Master's Degree in Modern Languages, Literatures and Translation aims to train graduates who are able to:

- carry out translation, editing and revision of texts at public and private institutions;
- work in the various fields that require translation skills, at local, national, European and international organizations;
- teach foreign languages or Italian L2 in private institutions and, having fulfilled the obligations required by current legislation, in Italian schools;
- continue university studies by accessing research doctorates and specialization schools.

The graduate will have:
- an in-depth knowledge of the languages, literatures and cultures relating to the two European languages (chosen between English, French, Spanish and German) and to the Italian L2 language;
- a humanistic preparation extended to include specific skills in the written translation of literary texts and the ability to reproduce aesthetic, historical and cultural values with sensitivity and awareness;
- knowledge of the mechanisms of linguistic comparison in relation to the text, in relation to genre and stylistic structure;
- a mature awareness of the differences in linguistic uses related to the means of communication, objectives and users, and register characteristics.

With a view to increasing internationalization, the Course also offers students the opportunity to obtain a double Master's degree thanks to an agreement signed with the Universität des Saarlandes (Saarbrücken, Germany). The program includes a first year of studies at the home University and a second year at the partner University, with full recognition of the training credits acquired. At the end of the course, students will obtain both the Master's Degree in Modern Languages, Literatures and Translation (LM-37) at the University of Salento and the Master's Degree in Romanistik–Italienisch with Nebenfach Europäische Kulturstudien at the University of Saarland. This initiative represents a significant added value for graduates, who will thus be able to enter the world of work and research with an international academic qualification, the result of joint and highly specialized training.

The Master's Degree in Modern Languages, Literatures and Translation is divided into three curricula from which the student is required to choose at the time of enrollment:
1) Standard curriculum,
2) DIL2 curriculum,
3) Unisalento-Saarland DIL2 double degree curriculum (Germany).
