Course description
The teaching activities can be delivered both in the Brindisi Teaching Center of the University of Salento and in the Taranto Teaching Center of the Polytechnic University of Bari as defined in the agreement between the two universities.
The designed training program is divided into two specialist areas: one focused on design in the aeronautical field and one focused on systems and technologies in the space field. The presence of these areas, together with a wide range of elective exams, allows the customization of the training program.
1) Having acquired, in the scientific-disciplinary sectors indicated for the basic training activities for the Degree Class L9 - Industrial Engineering, a minimum number of 36 CFU, acquired in any university course (Bachelor's Degree, Specialist Degree, Master's Degree, first and second level University Master's Degrees).
2) Having acquired, in the Scientific-Disciplinary Sectors characterising the Degree Class in Industrial Engineering, a minimum number of 30 CFU acquired in any university course (Bachelor's Degree, Specialist Degree, Master's Degree, first and second level University Master's Degrees). The Course of Study's Teaching Regulations will indicate the disciplinary sectors specifically required, indicating for each, or groups of them, the number of CFU required.
3) Have a good knowledge of the English language.
Access to the course is also permitted to holders of a Specialist or Master's Degree in Engineering (pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/1999 or Ministerial Decree 270/2004) or a Degree in Engineering obtained according to the system prior to Ministerial Decree 509/1999.
A personal preparation assessment is required for access to the Degree Course in Aerospace Engineering. The assessment procedures are reported in the Course of Study's Teaching Regulations.
The assessment may be replaced by a certification of knowledge of the English language equal to level B2, or higher, of the CEF (Common European Network) or another equivalent qualification.
Profile
Aerospace EngineerFunctions
A graduate in Aerospace Engineering can be employed in various tasks relating to the design, production, maintenance and operational use cycles of aircraft, including commercial and logistical aspects.Thanks to an integrated vision of the aeronautical product and a solid culture in the basic subjects characterising aerospace engineering, the aerospace engineer represents a professional figure who can focus various skills towards a goal, collaborating and interacting with other subjects from other cultural and professional areas.
He can also use his skills in fields other than aerospace, especially in all those fields with a high technological content developed starting from technologies born and developed in the aerospace field and in fields that interact with it (precision mechanics, production technologies, advanced materials, aerodynamic and fluid dynamics studies, automatic controls, IT, electronics etc.)
Skills
The aerospace engineer can find employment at- large national, multinational or international companies active in the aerospace field for the design and production of aircraft and/or aeronautical and space engines;
- small and medium-sized companies that supply components or consultancy services to said companies;
- companies that deal with maintenance and logistics of aircraft;
- companies and bodies managing airport sites;
- public bodies that deal with certification in the field of civil aviation and flight assistance;
- armed forces equipped with an air fleet.
Sbocco
All the major national players in the aeronautical field operate in the Puglia area, such as Alenia-Aermacchi, Avio and Agusta-Westland.The region also has small and medium-sized companies, some of which operate as suppliers of parts or mechanical processing for larger companies, others that offer consultancy services to the same.
Obviously, the graduate in aerospace engineering can find work in other national and international companies, given the supranational dimension of the aeronautical industry.
He can also use his skills to pursue a PhD and therefore enter the job market linked to national research institutions and agencies (e.g. the Italian Aerospace Research Center, the Italian Space Agency), foreign or international agencies (e.g. the European Space Agency).
The multidisciplinary skills based on a solid basic culture in industrial engineering allow the aerospace engineer both to find employment in industrial companies active in fields other than aerospace, and to successfully undertake a career as a professional, once he has passed the State Exam for registration in the Register of Engineers.
The paper proposed for the final exam, characterized by originality, always refers to a significant experience that may concern:
- a project activity;
- an in-depth study of a basic or applied research topic;
- an experimental research activity, carried out in university laboratories or at external institutions.
