Course description

The Master's Degree in Classical Literature lasts two years, includes a single curriculum and involves the acquisition of 120 CFU.
In close continuity with the classical curriculum of the Degree in Literature (L-10), to whose skills it is linked, the course provides the student with advanced preparation in the fields of literary, philological and historical disciplines relating to the Greek and Latin world and for a historical period from the Archaic to the Late Ancient Age, including the Byzantine area and period.
In these areas, the development of a rigorous scientific and methodological competence is taken care of and the capacity for autonomous criticism and personal research is encouraged. To this end, the Course reduces the compulsory and more general courses to the bare minimum, offers more space for the student's choice in the sector of specialist, characterising and similar or integrative teachings (thirteen, including didactic and methodological disciplines), provides more practical training experiences through specialist laboratories and maintains the need for in-depth study in at least one modern European foreign language.
The entrance qualification is a three-year degree in Literature - classical curriculum (5L) or a three-year degree obtained in the humanities area which also includes the acquisition of the following CFU:
- 12 CFU in the SSD L-FIL-LET/02;
- 12 CFU in the SSD L-FIL-LET/04
- 6 CFU in the SSD L-ANT/02;
- 6 CFU in the SSD L-ANT/03;
- 6 CFU in the SSD L-LIN/03; L-LIN/04; L-LIN/05; L-LIN/07; L-LIN/10; L-LIN/12; L-LIN/13; L-LIN/14 or level B1 of the chosen foreign language;;
- 24 CFU in the SSD L-FIL-LET/05; L-FIL-LET/06; L-FIL-LET/07; L-FIL-LET/08; L-ANT/04; L-ANT/07; L-ANT/05; M-STO/09; L-OR/02,L-FIL-LET/10,L-FIL-LET/12.
Graduates with a four-year degree in Literature - classical major may also directly access the Master's Degree in Classical Literature, while graduates with a four-year degree obtained in the humanities will be required to convert the exams taken in the four-year period into CFU for the purposes of verifying the acquisition of the CFU indicated above. Each exam taken during a four-year degree is valued at 12 CFU.
In addition to possession of the curricular requirements, a personal preparation assessment is required, which focuses on the scientific-disciplinary sectors underlying the three-year course, including adequate knowledge of a European Union language other than Italian; the methods are defined in the Teaching Regulations of the Master's Degree Course.
