Course description
The Master's Degree Course in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences, belonging to the Class of Master's Degrees (LM/SNT1) in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences, lasts two years.
The planned training path requires the student for a total of 120 University Training Credits (CFU).
The Course aims to train healthcare specialists with advanced cultural and professional training to intervene with high skills in the care, management, training and research processes in the nursing and midwifery profession, in response to the priority health problems of the population and the quality of services.
Furthermore, the course stands out for a methodological approach that places particular attention on the latest digital technologies in the healthcare sector.
The aim is to train a professional figure who can enhance and transfer, in the exercise of his/her activity, the contents of the basic training acquired in the field of human and psycho-sociological sciences, and in the field of sciences. legal, economic and healthcare management, also through the proposal of virtuous organizational, healthcare and management models in the nursing/obstetric field.
Another characteristic aspect of the professional figure that we intend to train is his/her ability to enhance scientific and technological progress in the field of statistics and epidemiology for prevention and healthcare management, and in the field of biological, medical and surgical sciences during patient care, first aid and his/her activity in the field of community medicine. Finally, the graduate will have teaching and tutorial skills in the field of nursing/obstetric sciences.
The trained professional figure will have the following job opportunities: He/she will work in the hospital and territorial healthcare field, both in public and private structures, covering departmental coordination roles or managerial roles.
In particular, he/she will be able to carry out his/her professional activity at: i.) Hospitals and specialist centers; ii.) Healthcare facilities for patients with chronic and/or progressive pathologies; iii.) Healthcare facilities identified by Ministerial Decree 77/2022 for the articulation of Territorial Assistance within the National Health Service; iv.) Public or private clinics and specialist laboratories, and facilities dedicated to the management of chronic conditions also through Telemedicine; v.) Universities and/or research institutions; vi.) National and international healthcare organizations; vi.) Public and private bodies managing health services.
Other employment opportunities are those in the field of health research at public or private bodies, teaching and ongoing training in the areas of expertise.
For admission to the Course of Study, it is necessary to have a three-year Degree in Nursing/Midwifery (Ministerial Class of affiliation L/SNT/01), or a University Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery or Pediatric Nursing or another equivalent qualification enabling the practice of the profession of Nursing/Midwife, required by current legislation, or another qualification obtained abroad deemed suitable.
Admission to the Course of Study in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences is subject to the legislation in force regarding access to courses of study with limited access at a national level. The number of eligible students is defined annually by Decree of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MUR),
The internationalization of the new Degree Course is supported by the Erasmus exchange program and other international programs active at the University of Salento.
The Master's graduate in Nursing and Obstetric Sciences will be able to continue his cultural and professional training by enrolling in Research Doctorate Courses, Specialization Courses and II level Masters.

i) express advanced skills in education, prevention, assistance, rehabilitation, palliative and complementary fields, in response to the priority health problems of the population and problems of quality of services, covering coordination roles or management roles in the field of nursing/obstetric assistance;ii) express skills in the planning and management of healthcare personnel, in relation to needs both in the hospital and territorial contexts, taking into account the development of new methods of work organization and virtuous examples, and scientific and technological advancement, also with reference to forms of teleassistance;
iii) express skills in the planning and organization of pedagogical-training interventions, also with reference to forms of teledidactics, and in the direction of the homogenization of operational standards to those defined in European context.
Skills
i) detect and critically evaluate the evolution of care needs pertinent to the specific professional figure (nurse or midwife);ii) plan and intervene operationally in order to solve complex care and organizational problems;
iii) plan, manage and evaluate care services with a view to improving quality in the aspects of planning, organization, management and control;
iv) supervise care for the specific professional figure (nurse or midwife) and perform professional consultancy functions;
v) apply and evaluate the impact of different theoretical models in the operation of care;
vi) plan, implement and evaluate training interventions;
vii) use research methods and tools, pertinent to the professional figure, in the clinical-care areas, in the organization and in the training;
viii) develop teaching skills for the specific professional figure in the context of tutorial activities and coordination of the internship in basic, complementary and ongoing training;
ix) critically analyze the ethical aspects related to assistance and multi-professional and multicultural problems.

iii) Healthcare facilities identified by Ministerial Decree 77/2022 for the articulation of Territorial Assistance within the National Health Service (Community House, Community Hospital, Territorial Operations Centre, Central 116117, Continuity of Care Unit, Family Counselling Centre)

vi) National and international healthcare organisations;

The final exam consists of the discussion of an experimental or theoretical-applicative thesis developed under the guidance of a Supervisor and
concerning the in-depth study of clinical, professional, managerial, training, professional and applied research topics, acquired during the course, giving evidence of the integration of the knowledge and skills learned.
