Course description

The Master's degree program in engineering for safety of critical industrial and civil infrastructures aims to meet the growing demand for professionals skilled in safety and resilience, in response to emerging technological and environmental challenges. The program is offered in both Italian and English and is part of an inter-university collaboration between the University of Salento and the Polytechnic of Bari. Courses train engineers with specific knowledge and skills for an interdisciplinary and systemic approach to industrial and civil infrastructures design and management. A deal of attention is paid to life-, economic and environmental-safety-driven design and management methods, with the support of up-to-date digital technology for data analysis.
Bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering (L07-Italian D.M. 270/04) or equivalent foreign degree; bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering (L09-Italian D.M. 270/04) or equivalent foreign degree. Different degrees will require specific educational credit integration.
Graduates will develop skills in safety management and risk assessment and mitigation in the field of industrial and civil engineering. By effectively integrating knowledge in complex systems design/monitoring and digital technologies for data analysis, a wide plethora of career opportunities will be available.
The degree is awarded upon successful completion of the final exam, which involves presenting the Master's Thesis to a Degree Board. The thesis should be based on activities conducted under the supervision of one of the professors in the master's degree program and does not necessarily need to be entirely original.
