Course description
A pre-requisite to access the program in Mechanical Engineering is the possession of fluent Italian language, required to attend and achieve with success program’s courses and activities. A Bachelor in Industrial Engineering or, in alternative, knowledge related to industrial engineering is required. This latter entails the possession of at least 100 Credits or equivalent knowledge in the following basic and characterising disciplines: mathematics, computer science, Statistics, physics and chemistry (basic). Industrial engineering topics, automatics, electronic bioengineering and computer science, electric and electronic measures, construction sciences and nuclear/sub-nuclear physics (characterising) Admission to the programme is subject to an interview.
Admission to the course requires a high school diploma or other equivalent and approved qualification obtained abroad.
Campus Ecotekne Via per Monteroni SN 73100 Lecce (LE)
Graduates in Mechanical Engineer are trained to be employed at the highest levels both in freelance professions, both in companies and public administrations, including research and education. Our graduates can pursue their careers in Europe and abroad as well, thanks to their ability to combine technical-engineering skills and knowledge with organizational and coordination skills, with particular reference to the following sectors and fields: aerospace, naval, nuclear, biomechanics and materials. The functions a typical graduate in our Program in Mechanical Engineering can perform are: production manager / technologist, head of research and development units, energy manager, mechanical designer.
Academic coordinator: Prof.ssa Maria Grazia GNONI Staff coordinator: Dott. Angelo Raffaele PICHIERRI
The Master in Mechanical Engineering aims to train professional specialists with in-depth knowledge of both basic and advanced sciences, able to interpret, describe and solve complex engineering problems. The programme guarantees an understanding of the advanced topics of mechanics, with a significant level of specialization, achievable by choosing one of the three tracks in which the Programme is organised. 1) Industrial Design and Manufacturing, focussed on unconventional machining, the use of CAM techniques and flexible work centres (FMS). It also provides skills on the use of advanced CAE techniques for design and experiment components of complex structures and mechanical systems. 2) Energy, focussed on hot mechanics related to energy saving, alternative energy production and their impact on the environment. It also provides skills on electronic controls, mechatronics and servomechanisms. 3) Vehicles Engineering, focussed on vehicle mechanics, mechatronics, fluid machines design and advanced propulsion systems.
The final exam consists in the writing of a dissertation on a subject chosen by the student among the topics of the Programme. The thesis, produced under the guidance of one or more supervisor/s, is of two kinds: 1) related to a project or an experimentation in university labs or other external organisations; 2) related to basic or applied research theme. Basic prerequisites are a relevance of the experience and originality of the work undertaken. The dissertation can also be prepared abroad and can be linked to a traineeship experience following an integrated traineeship plus thesis path. Research dissertations foresee the review of a referee, chosen among other Course’s professors, by means of a seminar. Graduation is awarded in a public Ceremony, based on the oral defence of the work to a graduation committee, which will assign a final evaluation by taking into consideration the candidate’s whole university career.
