Since the academic year 2000-2001, the degree course in Communication Sciences has provided students from the University of Salento with a multidisciplinary education ranging from sociology to philosophy, history, economics, linguistics and literatures. The interdisciplinarity of the course modules allows students to gain knowledge of the fundamental, theoretical and practical notions of communication processes. Over recent years, the degree course in Communication Sciences has also supported the organization of events, seminars and workshop on communication in the local area in order to promote areas of discussion, as well as to improve the students’ practical skills.
The final exam for the degree in Communication Sciences is the production of a written or multimedia dissertation. The topic, which is chosen by candidates, has to be consistent with one of the subjects from the course modules. Candidates will discuss their theses to a degree panel, whose members can pose questions that are meant to assess the students’ preparation and knowledge. Further linguistic skills are assessed by writing an abstract in English of the dissertation. The degree panel will propose the degree mark after evaluating the discussion of the theses, the students’ linguistic skills, along with the qualitative and temporal dimensions of the candidates’ careers.
