The Course in Viticulture and Enology includes a first year during which students acquire basic knowledge (mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany, plant physiology) and other knowledge that constitute the cultural foundation of the preparation. The course is completed by the disciplines of defense and agricultural production, economics and management of agricultural enterprises, notions of law and the teachings of viticulture and enology. The course includes a training internship at companies in order to provide a valuable opportunity for direct contact with wine producers. Graduates will be able to effectively carry out technical tasks of management of primary production, refinement, ageing and distribution of wine products ensuring quality and healthiness. The general objective of the graduates’ functions is the improvement of wine production in Puglia and bordering regions for quantity, quality, reputation and sales price, ensuring, through the introduction of technical and/or process innovations, the environmental sustainability of all activities.
Normally, 75 places available. Anyway, for the academic year 2020/2021 the Degree Course in Viticulture and Enology is free access. However, it is necessary to carry out a test for the evaluation of basic knowledge that is divided into a list of multiple-choice questions on the following subjects: mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and logic.
For the admission to Viticulture and Enology it is necessary to have a High School Diploma or other qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable. Moreover, a basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology is required. In addition to this, a good general culture is required together with common qualities of logic and expressive ability. These skills and knowledge will be verified through an obligatory access test; in case of a negative result, additional training obligations (OFA) will be attributed. OFAs will be recovered through short cycles of lectures or upon passing the exam associated to a specific OFA.
The graduate in Viticulture and Enology will find employment in all activities related to the exercise of agriculture both in private companies and public bodies and also in service and consulting companies, with particular reference to farms that intend to introduce organic production techniques or invest in agricultural and wine production typical of quality. The relevant employment opportunities are wine-growing and wine-producing companies, production or related companies, analysis laboratories, consortia and trade associations and public sector organizations. According to the Italian Law 129/91 and subsequent amendments, the graduate the graduate acquires the title of Enologist.
The degree in Viticulture and Oenology is obtained by passing a final test which consists in the presentation and discussion of an essay, written by the student under the guidance of a lecturer as supervisor, in front of a committee of teachers.
