Over the first two years the Degree course provides a solid grounding in the main sectors (private, constitutional, philosophical-legal/critical legal thinking, legal history) and also in particular fields (commercial/business, criminal, administrative, EU, international). From the third year the students can choose among three alternative curricula: "Classical", a traditional course programme which looks at the more common aspects of law; "Environment and Territory", which is linked to the ecological, biocultural, tourist and agri-food legal issues; "European and International", which is focused on the coexistence of supranational legal orders and the human rights. From the first year language skills will also be a priority; in the final two years there will be practical training courses to develop skills for entering the workplace (internships, interactive labs for legal research and writing - including use of databases -, etc.).
Open access (non-selective test). Students will be asked to perform a non-selective entry test in order to check their initial knowledge at the beginning of the academic year. The entry test is compulsory for all the students. In case a student fails to pass the knowledge test, he will be asked to fulfil Additional Learning Requirements (OFAs) by attending a seminar on historical and theoretical aspects of law within the first year of the course.
Admission to the course requires a secondary, high-school, or college-preparatory diploma, or other equivalent foreign diploma, and suitable recognised educational qualifications. Enrolment in the programme is not capped. The procedures for checking academic requirements are indicated in the Course Regulations, published on the university website, which establish the additional learning requirements (OFAs) to be achieved in the first year of the course if the initial requirements are not met.
The five-year Master's Degree in Law is the mandatory requirement to access the traditional legal professions such as lawyer, magistrate, notary. The professional profile of graduates in Law meets also the expertise standards required by: – European and international institutions – Companies and corporations – National and Regional/Local Public Administration - NGO's – Research institutes and universities. It also provides the necessary education for the pursuit of the career in other types of professions associated with law, such as civil mediation, banking, insurance, volunteering and cooperation, protection of cultural and environmental heritage, ICTs applied to the legal sciences, etc.
The final examination consists in writing and defending a Dissertation prepared under the guidance of a Supervisor. The Dissertation must be discussed publicly during a specific final examination session in front of the Graduation Board. The overall classification ranges from 66 to 110. The graduation grade is calculated as follows: - grade point average (GPA) is the weighted mathematical average of all marks expressed out of 30 and converted into a mark out of 110, plus: - for analytical/descriptive dissertations: from 0 to 6 points; - for dissertations of exceptional value (in this case, a Co-supervisor will also be appointed): from 7 to 8 points. Extra points will be given to those students who graduate on time or have participated in an Erasmus program. In order to give the maximum grade ("110 e lode", cum laude) the agreement of all members of the Graduation Board is required.
