Teaching description
none
The course is focused on the study of the interaction between natural, territorial resources and the tourism sector. In particular, after studying how natural ecosystems work, and the effects of human activities on them, the course teaches how to manage touristic activities in a sustainable way.
Learning outcomes:
Students will understand the complex dynamics underlying sustainable management of territorial resources for tourism. They will learn how to analyse and take decisions in order to reduce environmental impact of tourism activities and reduce pressure on natural resources.
knowledge and understanding:
The course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of sustainable management of the resources which represent the basis for tourism activities. This includes studying tools to evaluate, measure, communicate, and certify businesses' improvements in sustainability. Students will understand the fundamental principles governing the relationship between tourism, the use of natural resources and the environment.
Applying knowledge and understanding
Students will become familiar with various tools and indicators that support sustainable use of resources and will be able to apply them to specific cases, particularly in the tourism sector, in order to give support to public and private organisations for more sustainable territorial resources management.
Making judgements
Students' ability to make informed judgements on complex and current topics is fostered through continuous interaction between the professor and students in the classroom, as well as through group discussions on the topics covered during the course.
communication skills
Students will enhance their ability to communicate and present complex concepts and solutions, related to sustainable management of resources linked to tourism, to different audiences, including professionals and different stakeholders. This will be developed by group-works, class presentations and discussions.
Learning skills
Learning skills are developed through individual study, the analysis of documentary sources conducted during lectures, and interaction with external guests during seminars organized for this purpose.
Traditional lectures, group discussions, practical exercises, seminars
The learning level will be verified by an oral examination, which will not only assess the knowledge acquired on the content of the course, but also the student's ability to make critical analysis of the studied topics. Particular attention will be paid to student's ability to make logical connections between the various topics and student's independent judgments.
