Course description
The Master's Degree Course in Environmental Sciences aims to train graduates with a highly interdisciplinary cultural preparation in the field of Environmental Sciences, which allows them to perform highly responsible roles in various areas of public administration (Universities, state and parastatal bodies, territorial public bodies) and private bodies and companies through the performance of scientific (research and planning) and applicative (control and consultancy) activities.
Since this is a course of study that prepares professionals with mastery of the scientific method and the ability to use innovative methodologies and complex equipment, the professional opportunities for graduates in Environmental Sciences concern activities related to:
Curriculum: 'Environmental impact assessment and monitoring'
- Impact assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Environmental Certification;
- analysis, monitoring and management of environmental resources, environmental systems and the territory and evaluation of environmental quality.
Curriculum: 'Sustainable development and planning'
- planning and management of environmental resources, environmental systems and the territory through the analysis of the elements and processes that characterise the landscape useful for the development of sustainable territorial plans;
- planning and management of services relating to the conservation and production of environmental resources and the territory, energy from renewable sources and input into the national electricity grid.
To obtain the final academic qualification it is necessary to acquire 120 CFU (University Training Credits).
a) possession (at the time of enrollment) of university training credits obtained following activities that overall, due to their content and breadth, allow for a profitable training course in Environmental Sciences. This condition is already met for candidates in possession of a degree in class L-32 Science and Technology for the Environment and Nature (ex DM 270/04) or a degree in class 27 Science and Technology for the Environment and Nature (ex DM 509/99) or a degree in Natural Sciences (regulations prior to DM 509/99). For candidates with degrees from other CCddSS the regulation will establish the curricular requirements in terms of adequate skills in areas that contribute to Environmental Sciences;
b) the adequacy of the student's personal preparation in relation to the educational objectives of the course of study.
Profile
Second level graduate in Environmental Sciences.Functions
Curriculum: “Environmental impact assessment and monitoring”The Master's degree graduate in Environmental Sciences will be able to collaborate, with scientific and professional tasks, in the process of environmental impact assessment (VIA) of projects of implementation works and strategic environmental assessment (VAS) and in consultancy activities in the process of obtaining European and international certifications (EMAS, UNI EN ISO, Ecolabel, Ecoaudit), in the design and internal verification of the environmental management system of companies and the drafting of the Environmental Declaration for Certification, as well as in the chemical, physical, biological, geological investigation of environmental systems
in the monitoring of geophysical, meteorological and climatic variables and in the sustainable use of fish resources.
Curriculum: “Development and Planning Sustainable”
The Master's Degree Graduate in Environmental Sciences will be able to collaborate with scientific and professional tasks in the planning and management of different environmental contexts: terrestrial and marine-coastal, urban, peri-urban and extra-urban, with skills that allow him to carry out functions such as the analysis of the processes that characterize the landscape for the purpose of developing sustainable territorial plans, the enhancement and management of surface and underground landscape-environmental assets and resources, the planning of green areas (nature-based solutions), sustainable energy planning, sustainable management of agriculture, fishing and aquaculture, the environment in the context of meteorological-climatic, chemical and geological risks as well as the sustainable management of production processes in the chemical industry and chemical analysis activities.
Skills
Curriculum: “Environmental impact assessment and monitoring”The Master's Degree Graduate in Environmental Sciences will have scientific skills in different areas of environmental sciences and technologies such as for example the field of research, development, production and services at public and private bodies or companies operating in the industrial, agri-food, environmental management and monitoring, environmental accounting and renewable energy sectors. The graduate will have good knowledge of the scientific method and good ability to apply it with adequate knowledge of the regulatory aspects. The skills acquired will allow him/her to collaborate in the drafting of Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) and Environmental Certification, and will also be able to carry out analysis and monitoring activities of weather-climatic variables and environmental resources, environmental systems and the territory.
Curriculum: “Sustainable Development and Planning”
The Master's Degree Graduate in Environmental Sciences will have scientific skills in environmental planning and management in the field of research, development, production and services at public and private bodies that interface and operate in the field of sustainable territorial, landscape and environmental planning. The graduate will have good knowledge of the scientific method and good ability to apply it with adequate knowledge of the regulatory aspects. The skills acquired will allow him to collaborate in the drafting of urban, territorial, environmental, sustainability, landscape or sector plans at various scales, as well as in the definition, implementation and management of integrated programs and projects for territorial and environmental transformation and regeneration and for the valorization of typical features.
Sbocco
The employment opportunities of the Graduate in Environmental Sciences concern technical activities and collaboration with local administrations, public bodies and private companies in the field of:Curriculum: “Environmental impact assessment and monitoring”
- participation in the environmental impact assessment (VIA) process of implementation works projects and strategic environmental assessment (VAS), through the implementation of environmental impact studies, with the identification of environmental macro-sensitivities, the identification of the processes modifying the environment, natural and anthropic, existing and foreseen by the projects, the identification of all types of interactions existing and foreseen between the proposed projects and the conditions environmental;
- consultancy activities for the process of obtaining European and international certifications (EMAS, UNI EN ISO, Ecolabel, Ecoaudit), as well as the design and internal verification of the environmental management system of companies and the drafting of the Environmental Declaration for Certification;
- design and management of environmental monitoring and control systems promoted by the public administration, by production systems and by private entities;
- design and management of water treatment plants, air pollution mitigation and soil correction;
- monitoring of meteorological and climatic variables of the territory;
- participation in projects aimed at the sustainable use of fish resources;
- promotion and coordination of environmental policy initiatives, environmental education and information and the formation of a critical and proactive consensus of citizens to solve the problems posed by the territory according to the criteria of sustainability, prevention and environmental ethics;
