Course description

The graduate of the Master's degree course in Modern Languages, Literature and Translation will have:
- an in-depth knowledge of the languages, literatures and cultures of two European languages (chosen from English, French, Spanish and German) and of Italian L2;
- a humanistic preparation extended to include specific skills in the written translation of texts of a literary nature and the ability to reproduce aesthetic, historical and cultural values with sensitivity and awareness;
- knowledge of the mechanisms of linguistic comparison in relation to the text, in relation to genre and stylistic structure;
- a mature awareness of the differences in linguistic usage in relation to the medium of communication, objectives and users, register characteristics.

Verification of personal preparation for admission to the degree course is compulsory and takes place through an admission interview. Admission is open to graduates in possession of a university degree, obtained in Italy or abroad, recognised as suitable, provided that they have obtained a certain numer of credits in languages and literatures which is defined by the actual regulations.
The graduates of the Master are capable to:
- carry out translation, editing and text revision activities in public and private institutions
- work in the various fields requiring translation skills, at local, national, European and international organisations;
- teach foreign languages or Italian L2 in private institutions and, if they match the actual legal requirements, in public schools;
The Master's degree concludes with the presentation and subsequent discussion of a dissertation, which is conducted under the supervision of a lecturer or professor. The student must arrange with a lecturer or professor in a scientific-disciplinary field in which he/she has taken at least one examination.
