How to enrol at the University of Salento

The procedure to be followed for university registration and enrollment depends:

- on the type of course you want to enrol in (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree),
- on the type of access (open or programmed numbered) and
- on whether you are an EU citizen or a non-EU citizen already resident in Italy or whether you are a citizen who requires a visa to enter Italy.

The documents you will need are:

  • Passport
  • High school diploma (for access to Bachelor’s degree or Unique-cycle Master’s degree programmes)
  • Bachelor's degree (for access to Master's degrees)
  • Certifications of language proficiency, if any

Students not requiring an entry visa (EU and Non-EU already resident Italy)

If you do not need to apply for an entry visa to study in Italy, because you are an EU citizen wherever you reside or a non-EU citizen already resident in Italy, then the steps to follow to enrol at the University of Salento are as follows:

  1. Choose the course you are interested in:
  2. Go to the web portal www.studenti.unisalento.it and register (see the instructions: Text - Slides)
  3. If your chosen course is an open access Bachelor’s degree or a Unique-cycle Master’s degree, then proceed with enrolment (Immatricolazione - from  July to  November - exact dates will be published later)
  4. If the course you are interested in is a Bachelor’s degree with a limited places, register for the selection test (see the instructions). If you are admitted, you can proceed with enrolment (Immatricolazione).
  5. If the course you are interested in is a Master's degree, you must meet the prerequisites required by the course (see the announcement of the course) and register for the admission test (see the instructions). Once you have been admitted, you can proceed with enrolment (Immatricolazione).

 

Please note: For study courses taught in Italian, EU citizens and non-EU citizens already resident in Italy are exempt from the Italian language knowledge test.

Non-EU students requiring an entry visa

If you need to apply for an entry visa to study in Italy, because you are a non-EU citizen resident abroad (https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/), then the steps to be taken to enrol at the University of Salento are as follows:

  1. Choose the course you are interested in:

Read carefully the 'Procedures for entry, residency and enrolment of international students and the respective recognition of qualifications for higher education courses in Italy valid for the ongoing academic year published in Italian and English at: https://www.universitaly.it/studenti-stranieri
  3. Pre-enroll on the Universitaly.it web portal (instructions)
  4. Go to the web site www.studenti.unisalento.it and register (see the instructions: Text - Slides)
  5. If your chosen course is an open access Bachelor’s degree or a Unique-cycle Master’s degree, wait for your Universitaly application to be validated and, once you have obtained your visa, proceed with enrolment (Immatricolazione - from  July to November  - exact dates will be published later)
  6. If the course you are interested in is a Bachelor's degree with a limited places, register for the selection test (see the instructions)
  7. If you are admitted, your application on Universitaly will be validated and once you have your visa you can proceed with enrolment (Immatricolazione).
  8. If the course you are interested in is a Master's degree, you must meet the prerequisites required by the course of study (see the announcement of the course) and register for the admission test (see the instructions). If you are admitted, your application on Universitaly will be validated and you can proceed with enrolment (Immatricolazione).

Please note: For the academic year 2025/2026, visa applications must be submitted to the relevant diplomatic-consular representatives by November 30, 2025, at the latest.

Official Communication from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation:
‘Please note that pre-enrolment at the university does not in any way guarantee an appointment at the diplomatic-consular offices for the submission of visa applications.’
"It should also be noted that, as already stated in the ministerial circular entitled “Procedures for the entry, stay, enrolment of international students and the related recognition of qualifications for higher education courses in Italy valid for the academic year 2025-2026” on page 7, the prior acceptance of a candidate by the university does not confer any right to obtain a visa, given that the issuance of study visas is the exclusive responsibility of the individual diplomatic-consular representations."
