Course description

The Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences, running since the 2000-2001 academic year, offers a multi- and interdisciplinary education providing the basic skills for the professions in which communication plays a primary role (journalism, publishing, public and institutional communication, advertising), within a critical understanding of the interaction between communication processes and the historical-political, legal and economic phenomena of contemporary society.
Organised in a single curriculum, the programme develops linguistic (including English), semiotic, literary, sociological, socio-economic, historical-political, philosophical, pedagogical and psychological knowledge, logical and computing tools, media research methods and the critical skills needed to analyse the contexts of communication processes. Alongside the disciplinary activities are workshops (writing, event organisation, public speaking, press office and public relations).
The theoretical courses, placed between the first and second years, provide the basis for critically understanding the formats, media and genres of contemporary communication, including digital media and the impact of artificial intelligence. The applied courses and traineeships, between the second and third years, allow direct contact with the world of work, complemented by Erasmus mobility, seminars with sector professionals and local initiatives with companies and bodies in the fields of culture, publishing and communication.
The admission qualification is an upper secondary school diploma, or a qualification obtained abroad declared equivalent to an Italian upper secondary school diploma, or a first- or second-cycle degree (or a degree under the systems predating Ministerial Decree 509/99), regardless of the secondary qualification held.
Initial preparation is assessed through an entrance test aimed at verifying specific knowledge in logical-linguistic subjects and general knowledge in the social sciences.
The assessment procedures, the Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) provided where the assessment is not passed, and the ways in which they must be cleared, are set out in the programme's Teaching Regulations.
