Course description

The course of study is characterized by a specialized path that, on the basis of the analytical tools acquired, allows for a markedly professionalizing in-depth study of the subjects of civil engineering.
Studies in the field of structural civil engineering, building technologies, hydraulic engineering, and infrastructure form the backbone of a course that aims to train engineers ready to tackle even complex engineering problems.
To access the Degree Course in Civil Engineering, knowledge equivalent to that required by the general educational objectives of the three-year Degree - Civil and Environmental Engineering Class (Class 8 of Ministerial Decree 509/1999 and Class L-7 of Ministerial Decree 270/2004) is required.

In particular, all of the following requirements will be required, without exception:

- possession of a Bachelor's Degree, Specialist Degree or Master's Degree, pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/1999 or Ministerial Decree 270/2004, obtained from an Italian University or a five-year Degree (prior to Ministerial Decree 509/1999), obtained from an Italian University or equivalent qualifications;

- possession of at least 40 credits, or equivalent knowledge, acquired in any university course (Bachelor's Degree, Specialist Degree, Master's Degree, first and second level University Masters) in the scientific-disciplinary sectors indicated for the activities basic training in the disciplinary areas of the three-year degrees pertaining to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Class;

- possession of at least 60 credits, or equivalent knowledge, acquired in any university course (Bachelor's Degree, Specialist Degree, Master's Degree, first and second level University Masters) in the scientific-disciplinary sectors indicated for the characterizing training activities of the disciplinary areas of the three-year degrees pertaining to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Class;

A special Commission will evaluate the need for any curricular integrations in terms of credits that must be acquired before the verification of individual preparation, possibly providing for a different initial path in the case of training paths that are not perfectly consistent with the aforementioned requirements. The same Commission will subsequently verify the adequacy of personal preparation by providing for specific admission tests according to the methods described in the Teaching Regulations of the course of study. These tests will also include a verification of knowledge of the English language at least at level B2. This test can be replaced by a certification of knowledge of the English language equal to level B2, or higher, of the CEF (Common European Network) or another equivalent qualification.

Profile

Civil Engineer

Functions

The functions of the professional figure formed by the course of study will be those of solving design problems, even complex ones, from an analytical point of view. The skills acquired will allow, once the professional field has been contextualized, to address problems not only from an analytical point of view, but also from an operational and organizational point of view in the strict sense. The professional figure will be equipped with a high cultural versatility that over time will make him capable of solving the most diverse problems in the civil field.
The knowledge acquired can however also be considered suitable for aspiring young researchers (not necessarily university), especially if this path is enhanced by a final test on research topics.

Skills

Advanced design in the various fields of civil engineering, both through analytical methods and with computer systems.

Outcome

Freelance; employment in the Public Administration (technical offices, bodies, etc.) and public-private consortia; Construction and civil engineering companies in general; Research and Development.

Obtaining the degree allows you to register for the State exam to qualify for the profession of Engineer. In the event of a positive passing of the exam, it is possible to register in the professional register, section A, in the civil-environmental sector, with the title of Engineer.
The final exam consists of the discussion of a paper that serves to demonstrate the possession of the skills required by the educational objectives assigned to the Degree Course.
The paper proposed for the final exam, carried out under the guidance of one or more supervisors, characterized by originality, always refers to a significant experience that may concern:
- a project activity;
- an in-depth study of a basic or applied research topic;
- an experimental research activity, carried out in university laboratories or at external institutions.
