Course description
The Master's Degree in 'Medical Physics' (Class LM-17) lasts two years and does not have capped admission. In addition to the content typical of a Master's degree in physics, it integrates specific contributions from the biological and medical sciences, with particular reference to nuclear medicine and radiotherapy.
The aim is to train a professional able to meet the needs of the labour market and of research (both public and private) in the advanced fields of applied nuclear physics, radiation protection and the development of instrumentation, technologies and methods for medical diagnostics and therapy. Graduates are able to manage and design complex, high-technology equipment for medical applications in the public sector (healthcare facilities and organisations), the private sector (diagnostic centres, clinics) and industry (production of biomedical instrumentation and radiopharmaceuticals). To these are added the skills typical of a physics graduate in teaching, training, scientific dissemination, the promotion of innovation and the coordination of work groups, including multidisciplinary ones, in national and international contexts.
The programme is organised as a single track that integrates the physical sciences with chemical, biological and medical disciplines, and combines theoretical training with traineeships at public and private healthcare facilities, research centres, companies, laboratories and consultancy firms.

The Master's Degree in Medical Physics does not have capped admission.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree (Ministerial Decree 270/04 or earlier systems) in the degree classes L-7, L-8, L-9, L-30 and L-35, or another equivalent foreign qualification recognised under current legislation, provided they can demonstrate the acquisition of knowledge consistent with the activities set out in the ministerial tables for the Physical Sciences and Technologies degree class.
In particular, candidates must have:
- an adequate knowledge and operational ability in Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Linear Algebra, as well as the basics of General Chemistry;
- a knowledge of Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism and Optics and a basic knowledge of Modern Physics;
- the ability to use computing tools;
- knowledge of English at least at level B1.
An assessment of each candidate's preparation is carried out, in the ways set out in the programme's Teaching Regulations.
