Course description
It provides solid skills in quantitative models for assessing 'traditional' risks (plant-related, structural) and human-made risks affecting civil infrastructure (roads, bridges, water networks, major works) and industrial infrastructure (energy plants, fuel storage), plus the tools and technologies for preventing and managing risks in normal operation and emergencies, with attention to the resilience of engineering systems.
The common path develops skills in risk identification and quantification, analysis of structural risks, risk-management models (business continuity), digital and cyber-physical monitoring, the design of resilient infrastructure, legislation and emergency plans.
Run jointly with the Politecnico di Bari, the programme offers tracks in Italian (Bari) and English (Salento), with teaching based on case studies, laboratories and traineeships, strong integration with businesses and bodies, and a marked international orientation (UNIMED network).
The curricular requirements are considered met with a qualification in classes L-7 (Civil and Environmental Engineering) or L-9 (Industrial Engineering), in the equivalent classes under Ministerial Decree 509/99, or with a foreign qualification recognised as suitable.
For graduates of other Bachelor's classes (e.g. L-17 Architecture Sciences, L-23 Building Sciences and Techniques), the following are required: 24 CFU in basic activities in the disciplinary fields MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/07, MAT/09, FIS/01, CHIM/07; and 42 CFU in the characterising fields of LM-26 (ICAR/02, 07, 08, 09, 11, 17; ING-IND/08, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17, 31, 35; ING-INF/01, 02, 03, 05, 07). Any curricular integrations may also be acquired through single courses.
The ability to use fluently, in written and oral form, at least one European Union language in addition to Italian is also required. The procedures for verifying the requirements and the candidate's preparation, including knowledge of English, are set out in the regulations of the Industrial Engineering teaching council.
