Course description
The programme trains professionals with advanced knowledge of the molecular, cellular and genetic aspects underlying the most advanced biotechnological applications in basic and applied biomedical research, and skills in the structure, function and analysis of biological macromolecules and cellular processes, applied to molecular diagnostics, cell and gene therapy, translational medicine, synthetic biology and omics technologies (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiomics) to identify therapeutic targets and develop innovative targeted drugs and their delivery strategies for personalised medicine. It also provides the basis for designing new biomedical devices using nanobiotechnological approaches. The final qualification requires at least 120 CFU.
The programme is organised into two tracks: 'Omics Applications in Biomedicine' (human anatomy, physiology, molecular pathology and epidemiology, technologies for studying macromolecules) and 'Nanobiotechnological Applications in Biomedicine' (applied physiology, applications of physics in diagnostics and therapy, nanobiotechnology, chemical-physical and analytical technologies, biomaterials, chemistry for synthetic biology). Some courses are taught in English to support internationalisation.
a) a first-cycle degree in class L-2 Biotechnology (Ministerial Decree 270/04) or class 1 Biotechnology (Ministerial Decree 509/99) or, alternatively, a first-cycle degree in other classes, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable under current legislation, provided the student has acquired a minimum number of CFU in the disciplinary fields as follows:
1. MATH-01/A, MATH-06/A, PHYS-01/A and PHYS-03/A, PHYS-06/A, INFO-01/A, MEDS-24/A, STAT-01/A, STAT-01/B: 10 CFU;
2. CHEM-01/A, CHEM-02/A, CHEM-03/A, CHEM-05/A: 10 CFU;
3. BIOS-01/A, BIOS-07/A, BIOS-08/A, BIOS-10/A, BIOS-13/A, BIOS-14/A, BIOS-15/A: 10 CFU;
4. AGRI-06/A, BIOS-06/A, BIOS-07/A, BIOS-08/A, BIOS-11/A, BIOS-14/A, CHEM-05/A, CHEM-07/C, MEDS-02/A, MEDS-24/B: 24 CFU.
Credits from a field already counted in one area cannot be reused for the same field in another area.
b) the adequacy of the candidate's preparation in relation to the programme's objectives, verified in the ways described in the admission-procedures section (A3.b).
