Course description

The Master's Degree in Mathematics aims primarily to train graduates with a solid mathematical preparation in terms of content, methods and proof techniques.
The activities offered allow for theoretical or modelling-applied study paths, seeking, where possible, to introduce cutting-edge topics from current research in Mathematics.
The programme offers three tracks:
- a theoretical-modelling track, aimed at acquiring specific high-level techniques in Pure Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Mathematical Analysis) and Applied Mathematics (Probability, Mathematical Physics, Numerical Analysis), to develop the ability to tackle real-world problems;
- a track preparatory to teacher training, in which knowledge in the various areas of Mathematics is combined with specific preparation in teaching methodologies;
- a track dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, providing mathematical tools, both theoretical and computational, to navigate the field of Big Data across the various branches of knowledge, combining theoretical training with courses on the understanding, modelling and development of Neural Networks and Machine Learning.
Admission to the Master's degree is subject to:
a) the possession (at enrolment) of university credits acquired through activities that, in terms of content and breadth, allow the studies to be successfully continued in a strictly mathematical field. This condition is automatically met by students holding a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics (Class 32, Ministerial Decree 509/99, or Class L-35, Ministerial Decree 270/04).
For students from other degree programmes, the minimum number of credits required for enrolment is as follows:

- 32 CFU in disciplinary fields MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08;
- 9 CFU in FIS/01;
- 6 CFU in INF/01 or ING-INF/05.

b) the adequacy of the candidate's preparation, verified through an individual interview with a Committee appointed annually by the Teaching Council.

c) the ability to use English effectively in the specific field of competence and for the exchange of general information. This condition is automatically met if a certificate of at least level B2 is held; otherwise the candidate's language skills are verified during the individual interview.
