Course description
The programme is organised into tracks corresponding to different fields of research in Physics.
In these tracks, students study the most important theoretical and experimental developments in the relevant field and carry out differentiated laboratory activities, experimenting with the most recent and sophisticated methods of measurement, analysis and data processing and acquiring numerical and symbolic computation techniques. Alternatively, students may propose a personalised study plan, whose academic coherence is assessed by the Teaching Council.
The programme concludes with the preparation of the final dissertation, preceded by any traineeship and guidance activities useful for acquiring further skills needed for the thesis work and/or for subsequent entry into the labour market.
Organising the Master's degree into several specialist tracks means the curriculum includes wide ranges of CFU across the different areas of the characterising disciplines, so as to achieve a high level of scientific preparation in each path.
Enrolment requires a Bachelor's degree (Ministerial Decree 270/04 or earlier systems) or another equivalent foreign qualification, provided it is consistent with the activities set out in the ministerial tables for the Physical Sciences and Technologies degree class.
In particular, the curriculum must include at least 90 CFU in the disciplinary fields MAT/*, FIS/*, CHIM/*, INF/01, ING-INF/01-02, ING-INF/05, ING-INF/07, ING-IND/09-10, ING-IND/18-20, ING-IND/22-23, GEO/10, GEO/11, GEO/12, of which at least 60 in MAT/* and FIS/*.
Candidates must also have:
- an adequate knowledge and operational ability in Mathematical Analysis, Geometry and Linear Algebra, as well as the basics of General Chemistry;
- an in-depth knowledge of Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism and Optics, and a basic knowledge of Modern Physics;
- the ability to use computing tools;
- knowledge of English at least at level B1.
An assessment of each candidate's preparation is carried out, in the ways set out in the programme's Teaching Regulations.
