Course description
The standard track allows students to acquire, in a guided way, the credits needed to access the teaching qualification competition classes A-19 (History and Philosophy) and A-18 (Philosophy and Human Sciences), with particular attention to the History of Philosophy (Ancient, Medieval, Modern and Contemporary), and extends training to cross-disciplinary fields linked to culture, the arts, work and scientific and technological innovation.
International double-degree paths are offered: Italian-German with the Universität zu Köln (from 2015/2016) and in Philosophy of Religion with the Pontifical Gregorian University (from 2025-2026, with a Licence in Philosophy). The Italian-French path with Université Paris-Sorbonne is suspended for 2026-2027, pending renewal. The international paths also give access to the book and documentary heritage of the partner universities.
Teaching draws on the collaboration of nine research centres and on seminars, workshops and traineeships, in synergy with the steering committee and social partners. The study of at least one European language is required.
Specific requirements apply to the international paths. Italian-French path: up to 6 students per year are admitted to the joint programme, selected among holders of the Licence in philosophy and the Bachelor's degree in Philosophy on the basis of a project and results; an adequate mutual knowledge of French and Italian is required, verified by a dedicated committee.
Italian-German path: up to 10 students per university are admitted to the joint-supervision thesis programme. A first-cycle qualification consistent with the Master's programme is required (a Bachelor's B.A. in Germany, a Bachelor's degree in Italy) and a final grade of at least 'Good' (2.5) in Germany or 105/110 in Italy; qualifications obtained elsewhere are assessed individually. Knowledge of German (level B1) is required for UniSalento students and a good knowledge of Italian for Cologne students, verified by a dedicated committee.
