Course description

The Master's Degree in Classical Literature lasts two years, has a single track and involves the acquisition of 120 CFU.
In close continuity with the classical track of the Bachelor's Degree in Humanities (L-10), whose skills it builds on, the programme provides advanced training in the literary, philological and historical disciplines of the Greek and Roman world, over a historical span from the Archaic to the Late Antique age, including the Byzantine area and period.
In these fields, it fosters rigorous scientific and methodological competence and encourages the capacity for independent critical thinking and personal research. To this end, the programme keeps compulsory and more general courses to a minimum, gives greater scope to student choice among specialist, characterising and related or integrative courses (thirteen, including teaching methodologies and methodological disciplines), offers more practical training experiences through specialist workshops and maintains the requirement to study at least one modern European foreign language.
The admission qualification is the Bachelor's degree in Humanities - classical track, or a Bachelor's degree in the humanities area that also includes the acquisition of the following CFU:
- 12 CFU in disciplinary field L-FIL-LET/02;
- 12 CFU in L-FIL-LET/04;
- 6 CFU in L-ANT/02;
- 6 CFU in L-ANT/03;
- 6 CFU in L-LIN/03, L-LIN/04, L-LIN/05, L-LIN/07, L-LIN/10, L-LIN/12, L-LIN/13, L-LIN/14, or level B1 in the chosen foreign language;
- 24 CFU in L-FIL-LET/05, L-FIL-LET/06, L-FIL-LET/07, L-FIL-LET/08, L-ANT/04, L-ANT/07, L-ANT/05, M-STO/09, L-OR/02, L-FIL-LET/10, L-FIL-LET/12.
Holders of a four-year degree in Humanities - classical track may also access the Master's degree directly, while for holders of a four-year degree in the humanities area the exams taken during the four years are converted into CFU to verify the acquisition of the CFU indicated above; each exam is worth 12 CFU.
In addition to the curricular requirements, an assessment of the candidate's preparation is provided, covering the disciplinary fields underlying the Bachelor's programme, including an adequate knowledge of a European Union language other than Italian; the procedures are set out in the Master's programme's Teaching Regulations.
