The Department of Mathematics and Physics promotes coordinates research in mathematical and physical disciplines and provides for the development of teaching, consulting and training activities for the territory. It is home to important internationally recognition research activities in many fields of Mathematics, Physics, Optometry and Nanotechnology. In our Department there is a very intense research activity in the major sectors of Modern Physics, both fundamental and applied: Particle Physics, Physics of Matter, Astrophysics and Cosmology, Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Physics, Physics and Cultural Heritage, Advanced Optometry and Contactology. In the mathematical field: Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Geometry, Probability and Statistics.
The Department also hosts structures and researchers of the major Italian research institutions such as the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the National Research Council (CNR), the National Astrophysics Institute (INAF) and a research unit of the National Institute of High Mathematics (INdAM ) whose primary purpose is to promote research and high mathematical training activities, while ensuring a high level of scientific quality. The Department has agreements with several universities in the frame of Erasmus+ for the mobility of students, faculty and administrative staff.
