Course description

The Master's Degree in Technical-Scientific Translation and Interpreting is the ideal continuation of the Three-Year Degree in Science and Technique of Linguistic Mediation, but also a particularly attractive training path for students coming from other three-year degree courses, who possess linguistic skills and knowledge equal to level C1 for English and B1 or B2 (depending on the choice) for the other language of study, if chosen.
The course is divided into three curricula from which the student is required to choose at the time of enrollment: 1) Unisalento curriculum, 2) double-degree curriculum Unisalento-Essex (UK), 3) double-degree curriculum Unisalento-ASMU (Iran). The study plan essentially offers the same subjects in the three curricula, but those admitted to the double degree curricula will complete their second year of studies at the partner university, obtaining two degrees.
Regardless of the chosen curriculum, the Master's Degree has as its fundamental objective the training of professional figures capable of operating in a specialized manner in the field of translation for languages, or the language, object of curricular study, as well as liaison and consecutive interpretation (with note-taking) for the English language.
The educational objectives are pursued through the study, at a specialized level, of the English language and of the second foreign language, where chosen by the student, of linguistics and of the most recent translation theories and practices, which put the student in the position to operate effectively also with the aid of the latest generation software in the sector. In the Unisalento program, particular attention is dedicated to translation for tourism and for the medical field and to audiovisual translation.
The verification of the personal preparation of knowledge for admission to the Master's Degree in Technical-Scientific Translation and Interpreting is mandatory. Admission is granted to graduates of any degree course, provided they possess knowledge and skills comparable to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for English and B1 or B2 (depending on the choice) for the second language.
Foreign students are required to have a B2 level of Italian.
It is mandatory to pass an admission interview during which the commission verifies the linguistic level and the candidate's ability to translate between Italian and the foreign language. During the interview, the mastery of general scientific methods and contents in the linguistic disciplines will also be assessed.

The final exam is an important part of the student's educational path and contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the course.
It consists of the drafting and oral discussion of a written paper relating to one or more of the subjects studied during the course of study. The final exam, in fact, can also be transversal to several disciplines. In the drafting, the student is supported by a supervisor and a co-supervisor, competent with respect to the topics that the student intends to cover.

The planning, development and drafting of the final paper imply the student's ability to put into practice analysis and research methodologies, as well as to critically analyze and rework a series of theoretical contents inherent to the area chosen for the final exam. The final paper will therefore be an in-depth study, theoretical and/or experimental, on specific topics, with which the student will be able to demonstrate maturity, of knowledge and method, in the chosen area.

In any case, the final exam is configured as a moment of synthesis and application of the contents studied during the course. It also evaluates the student's ability to communicate concrete and abstract concepts of advanced complexity, to argue their ideas in a structured way and to illustrate the results of a research in a technical way.
