The Master's Degree in Technical-Scientific Translation and Interpreting is the ideal continuation of the Bachelor's Degree in Linguistic Mediation Science and Techniques, but is also open to students from other Bachelor's programmes with language skills at level C1 for English and B1 or B2 (depending on the choice) for the second language, where chosen.
The programme is organised into four tracks, chosen at enrolment: Unisalento; International; Essex (double degree with the University of Essex, Colchester, UK); and ASMU (double degree with Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University, Tabriz, Iran). The study plan is essentially the same across the tracks, but students on the double-degree tracks spend their second year at the partner university, obtaining two degrees.
The programme's core aim is to train professionals able to work at specialist level in translation for the language(s) studied and in liaison and consecutive interpreting (with note-taking) for English. These objectives are pursued through the specialist study of English and, where chosen, a second foreign language, of linguistics, of the main IT tools supporting translation and interpreting — including Artificial Intelligence — and of the most recent translation theories and practices. On the Unisalento and International tracks, particular attention is given to translation for tourism and medicine and to audiovisual translation.

The assessment of the candidate's knowledge for admission to the Master's Degree in Technical-Scientific Translation and Interpreting is compulsory. Admission is open to graduates of any degree programme, provided they possess knowledge and skills equivalent to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for English and B1 or B2 (depending on the choice) for the second language.
International students are required to have level B2 in Italian.
Candidates must pass an admission interview during which the committee verifies their language level and their ability to translate between Italian and the foreign language. The interview also assesses the command of general scientific methods and content in the linguistic disciplines.
