Course description

The Master's Degree in Modern Literature lasts two years and requires the acquisition of 120 CFU. The Course aims to pay particular attention to specialized training in languages and literature from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age and advanced knowledge of the methodologies, theories and linguistic systems of ancient and modern languages, as well as knowledge of the methodologies specific to historical sciences and the study of the environment and the territory. The set of training activities ensures the acquisition of solid higher-level skills in every cultural and professional sector connected to the production, circulation and analysis of texts from the Christian Middle Ages to the contemporary world. The programs are aimed at developing the ability for independent criticism and personal research, and teach how to exercise it with appropriate scientific and methodological rigor.

With a view to increasing internationalization, the Course also offers students the opportunity to obtain a double Master's degree thanks to an agreement signed with the Universität des Saarlandes (Saarbrücken, Germany). The program includes a first year of studies at the home university and a second year at the partner university, with full recognition of the credits acquired. At the end of the course, students will obtain both the Master's Degree in Modern Literature (LM-14) at the University of Salento and the Master's Degree in Romanistik–Italienisch with Nebenfach Europäische Kulturstudien at the University of Saarland. This initiative represents a significant added value for graduates, who will thus be able to enter the world of work and research with an international academic qualification, the result of joint and highly specialized training.
The entry qualification is a three-year degree in Literature (5L) or a three-year degree obtained in the humanities area which also includes the acquisition of the following CFU:
- 6 CFU in the SSD L-FIL-LET/10;
- 6 CFU in the SSD L-FIL-LET/12;
- 24 CFU in the SSD L-ANT/02; L-ANT/03; M-STO/01; M-STO/02; M-STO/04;
- 6 CFU in the SSD L-LIN/03; L-LIN/04; L-LIN/05; L-LIN/07; L-LIN/10; L-LIN/12; L-LIN/13; L-LIN/14 or B1 level of the chosen foreign language;
- 12 CFU in the SSD L-LIN/01; M-GGR/01; L-FIL-LET/04; L-FIL-LET/08; L-FIL-LET/09; L-FIL-LET/11; L-FIL-LET/13; L-FIL-LET/14; L-FIL-LET/15; M-STO/07.
Graduates with a four-year degree in Literature may also directly access the Master's Degree in Modern Literature, while graduates with a four-year degree in the humanities will be required to convert the exams taken in the four-year period into CFU for the purposes of verifying the acquisition of the CFU indicated above. Each exam taken during a four-year degree is valued at 12 CFU.
A verification of personal preparation is required, in addition to possession of the curricular requirements; the methods are defined in the Teaching Regulations of the Master's Degree Course.
