3.3.1.4.0 - Corrispondenti in lingue estere e professioni assimilate

Course description

The three-year degree course in Foreign Languages, Cultures and Literatures aims to train professionals capable of operating independently in contexts where linguistic and cultural skills are required.
Graduates will have acquired theoretical and technical skills in the field of language, literature and culture of two European linguistic-cultural fields (to be chosen between English, French, Spanish and German). They will also have basic skills in a further linguistic and cultural field (to be chosen between Portuguese, Albanian, Turkish).
They will also have a broad knowledge of essential literary, critical and philological, comparative and semiotic themes. Graduates will be able to compare texts, analyse a given text in linguistic terms and in the historical-cultural, social and literary context. They will also be able to produce and translate various text types into Italian and foreign languages, in particular related to the literary, journalistic and essay fields.
Admission to the Course requires a high school diploma or equivalent qualification or other qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable according to the requirements set by current regulations. Taking into account the specific educational objectives of the Course, a good basic preparation in the field of humanities (Italian language and literature, history, geography) and knowledge of at least one foreign language is required. The Course will activate preventive, selective verification procedures of the minimum requirements, through the administration of questionnaires or entrance tests. Any OFA must be remedied during the first year of the course.

Profile

Foreign language correspondents and similar professions

Functions

The graduate in Foreign Languages, Cultures and Literatures performs the role of cultural mediator, both written and oral, in public and private institutions, businesses, national and international organizations, non-profit associations and in any other context where linguistic assistance is required for tourism, commercial and cultural purposes. In these areas, he/she deals with the translation of texts from/to the foreign language and the drafting of texts in Italian or other languages, as well as the reception and maintenance of relationships with international partners, clients or guests, both orally and in writing.

Skills

The foreign language correspondent carries out his/her duties thanks to the ability to reflect critically on the language, both Italian and foreign, and on the related cultures. In particular, he/she is able to make autonomous linguistic choices in the translation and drafting of texts in Italian and foreign languages, through analysis of the text and of the semiotic and historical-cultural context and in relation to the different textual typologies. Furthermore, the expert knows how to choose the most suitable written and oral translation strategies to apply in different contexts and knows how to use the linguistic and cultural research tools most suited to the contingent situation.

Sbocco

The expected employment opportunities and professional activities fall within the sectors of cultural services, journalism, publishing and cultural institutions, in businesses and commercial activities, in diplomatic and consular representations, in cultural tourism and cultural intermediation, as well as in the training of development operators in multi-ethnic and multicultural contexts. The University has planned, in agreement with public and private bodies, the most appropriate internships to compete for the achievement of the credits required for the training activities corresponding to specific professional profiles, or courses and other training and cultural experiences aimed at promoting the graduate's entry into the world of work. Furthermore, graduates who have sufficient credits in appropriate groups of sectors, as provided for by Decree 10 September 2010, n. 249, will be able to participate in the admission tests for the training courses with a limited number of places for teaching in secondary schools and, once these courses have been completed and the qualification obtained, they will be able to participate in the competitive procedures according to the current legislation.
The first level degree concludes with the presentation of a written paper, carried out under the supervision of a supervisor. This paper is an important part of the student's educational path. Writing the paper offers the student the opportunity to individually develop systematic work on a specific topic. The student must reach an agreement with a professor from a scientific-disciplinary sector in which he or she has taken at least one exam. It is believed that this agreement must take place at least six months before the expected date of the discussion of the paper. The paper must be original and allow for the evaluation of the maturation achieved in the context of the studies undertaken and in particular of the learning areas of the Course of Study.

The final paper will be in Italian or in a foreign language. It may also be written partially in a foreign language. The choice in this regard will derive from agreements between the student and the supervisor.
