Course description

The master's degree course in Sociology and Social Research trains specialists with multidisciplinary skills, which are useful for the analysis and management of complex social processes. They include theoretical competences in sociology and philosophy, empirical skills for social (both qualitative and quantitative) research design, particularly on territorial development and social innovation, deviant phenomena, and didactics of huma sciences.
Basic knowledge is required of sociology and research methodology, as well as interdisciplinary knowledge of economic, legal, political and statistical disciplines. Graduates in the following areas are eligible for admission: Philosophy; Administration and Organisation; Economics and Business Management; Education; Communication; Psychology; Political science; Sociology; Social work; Statistics.
Career opportunities envisaged by the degree course are in social research, as well as in the management of public and private administrations. Graduates in Sociology and Social Research have skills in the analysis and management of social data, and in the design of public policies oriented by empirical research, particularly in the fields of territorial development, marginality and crime.
The dissertation is the result of original research activity, carried out under the guidance of a lecturer, on topics related to the disciplines covered by the student during his/her training. The thesis is checked by a co-rapporteur and discussed publicly in the presence of the degree committee.
