Course description

The Degree Course in 'Social Education and Educational Intervention Techniques', implements the provisions of paragraph 595 of Law 205/2017, art. 4, paragraph 1 of letter e) of Legislative Decree 65/17. That is, it offers a training path aimed at awarding the qualification of 'Professional socio-pedagogical educator' in particular oriented towards community interventions in the dual role of operator in social services, in recreational-cultural services and environmental education, and in health and socio-health contexts limited to strictly educational functions. Furthermore, in compliance with art. 9 of Ministerial Decree 378 of 9 May 2018 which states 'the educator of educational services for children must have a three-year degree in class L-19 Education and training sciences with a training path that satisfies the minimum requirements' will allow the socio-pedagogical professional educator to work in public and private nurseries and in all structures that offer personal services for the 0-3 age group.

The SOCIO-CULTURAL EDUCATOR activates educational contexts aimed at supporting the development of relational, emotional/affective and cognitive skills taking into account the educational and pedagogical quality of the learning environments; promotes personal growth, social inclusion and participation, accompanies groups, communities and individuals to develop their playful, cultural, expressive and relational potential. Other aspects characterizing his/her activity include: the organization, implementation and management of educational, social and cultural interventions that respond to individual needs; the organization of places of sociality; conflict mediation, in all areas where it is possible to promote the meeting between people and groups and increase their ability to actively participate in social life.

Although distinguishing himself from the figure of the socio-health educator, the socio-cultural educator, as a professional socio-pedagogical educator, works 'in the educational, training and pedagogical field, in relation to any activity carried out in a formal, non-formal and informal way, in the various stages of life.



THE SOCIO-CULTURAL EDUCATOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD (0-3) is a professional who deals with children in the age group between 0 and 3 years (Legislative Decree no. 65/2017). It works within nurseries, micro nurseries - smaller structures with the possibility of hosting up to 24 children, family nurseries - socio-educational services inserted in family contexts, baby parking - hourly custody centers, spring sections in private nursery schools, company nurseries - structures reserved for employees' children up to a maximum of 3 years, communities for mothers and children - structures that welcome mothers in difficulty, pediatric departments of hospitals, communities for minors - structures that welcome children under 3 years of age

The ordinary path includes the option of choosing the specific training dedicated to the 0-3 age group in the third year of the course.



As an operator in the recreational-cultural field, knowledge and operational strategies are developed regarding the promotion and implementation in the communities of services aimed both at the cultural growth of the population and at raising awareness of ecological issues by developing skills for the protection and safeguarding of the environment and the material and cultural heritage. intangible.


The education of the graduate of L19 is completed with the knowledge of at least one foreign language and both the acquisition of the four linguistic skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) and the mandatory attendance of lessons may be foreseen, according to criteria that will be specified in itinere by the course of studies, in coherence with the prescriptions of the academic bodies.



The educational offer of the course is therefore divided into founding disciplinary skills relating to the complex of educational sciences (highlighting the differences in intervention for the various age groups and in particular those of 0-3) and the historical-philosophical-social disciplines that frame on a cultural level the intervention models of the operators to whom the course is dedicated, integrated with skills developed in Internship activities, Laboratories and Seminars.
Knowledge required for admission
To be admitted to the degree course, it is necessary to have a high school diploma of five years duration or another qualification obtained abroad recognized as suitable, or a high school diploma of four years duration and the related supplementary year or, if no longer active, the assigned educational debt.
The number of students who can enroll and the methods of carrying out the selection will be made public each year with the relevant competition announcement.

It is also necessary to have a good level of knowledge relating to the grammatical and syntactic structures of spoken and written Italian. Equally good must be the ability to grasp the central meaning of a spoken and written message together with the ability to argue one's own point of view on a known topic; and finally the ability to identify the main differences between different theoretical positions in reference to the same topic.

The possession of such knowledge and skills will be assessed through an evaluative entrance test. All students who have passed the minimum threshold established for the test will be admitted without reservation. Those who have not reached this threshold will be assigned specific additional training obligations relating to the area in which they have demonstrated gaps. To support students, the Course of Study will activate a specific training path, attendance of which is not mandatory, but strongly recommended. The assigned additional training obligation is considered to have been passed by passing a specific exam. The methods of carrying out this exam will be promptly defined by resolution of the Course of Study Council and made known by publication on the website of the course of study itself. The additional training obligation is also considered to have been fulfilled if all the training activities foreseen in the first year of the course have been passed, excluding any activities independently chosen by the student.
Failure to fulfill the obligation by the date decided by the Academic Bodies and published on the University Portal will result in the repetition of enrollment in the same year.

SOCIO-CULTURAL EDUCATOR

Functions

The Degree Course, combining pedagogical-didactic knowledge with philosophical, sociological, psychological and medical knowledge, aims to train an educator in public and private structures aimed at social, socio-health services and in all structures oriented towards personal services, including nurseries and playrooms for the 0-3 age group. In particular:
- carries out educational and socio-educational animation activities alongside other operators, such as doctors, sociologist, psychologists, teachers, social workers, OSS;
- manages educational and cultural activities in direct contact with children, adolescents, the elderly, people with disabilities, marginalized subjects.

Skills

The skills associated with the role of Socio-cultural Educator mature from the framework of theoretical, epistemological and methodological knowledge of educational problems in their various dimensions. In particular, the CdS aims to develop:
- ability to structure, manage and evaluate the activities envisaged by an educational intervention project with subjects in developmental age with diversified life histories and problems;
- relational skills necessary to carry out individual interviews with subjects in training and with other significant and relevant subjects operating in the living environment (parents, teachers, social workers, psychological support figures, etc.);
- skills in preparing and implementing educational contexts and related activities aimed at developing the potential for relationships, autonomy, creativity, learning, in an appropriate emotional, playful and cognitive environment;
- skills in accompanying the growth process of users of all ages who are entrusted to them;
- ability to lead socio-educational groups with users and carry out group animation;
- ability to draft reports, work reports on users and on the type of service provided;
- ability to activate exchange networks with institutions, public services, cooperatives;
- ability to implement creativity and pro-activity in the implementation of socio-educational projects;
- ability to collaborate synergistically with other professional figures without role ambiguity.

The employment opportunities for the three-year graduate of the Degree Course in "Social Education and Educational Intervention Techniques" are:
- public and private structures and the third sector (cooperatives) that manage and/or provide educational services also for the 0-3 age group;

The training course ends with the final exam which consists of a written paper from which it is possible to deduce and evaluate:
a. the autonomy of judgment in relation to the skills acquired in the training course followed;
b. the knowledge of professional practices;
c. the critical skills relating to the interpretations of the literature in the sector.
