Course description

The three-year course of study offers an interdisciplinary education, aimed at preparing sociologists to be employed in social research, planning and management of social policies, in particular those related to processes of exclusion and marginalization. The course distinguishes two curricula: the curriculum 'Professional and Teaching of Human Sciences' and the curriculum in 'Crime and Deviance'. The latter focuses in particular on the sociological study of processes of marginalization, as well as on the legal and psychological aspects of crime. Both curricula offer knowledge of the fundamentals of sociological disciplines, social research methodology, statistics, as well as historical, anthropological, legal and economic knowledge, with the aim of training graduates capable of analyzing and interpreting social phenomena starting from multidisciplinary skills and knowledge.
In particular, the 'Professional and Teaching of Human Sciences' curriculum gives students the opportunity to opt for two different training profiles: on the one hand, the 'Professional' profile, which provides a teaching offer aimed at training sociologists capable of using their skills in the world of professions, research and complex organizations, possibly completing their training by continuing their studies in the Territorial Development and Social Innovation curriculum of the Master's degree in Sociology and Social Research (LM-88); on the other hand, the 'Teaching of Human Sciences' profile which, in close connection with the master's degree in Sociology and Social Research (LM-88) present in the educational offer of our University, is designed to guarantee students at least 96 credits in the scientific disciplinary sectors M-FIL, M-STO, M-PED, M-PSI and SPS necessary for access to two competition classes for teaching in secondary schools: class A-18 (philosophy and human sciences) and class A-65 (Theory and technique of communication).
At the same time, the 'Teaching of Human Sciences' profile, in connection with the master's degree in Sociology and Social Research (LM-88), complies with the provisions of Ministerial Decree 616 of 10 August 2017, guaranteeing the acquisition of the 24 CFU in the four areas (pedagogical, psychological, anthropological and didactic) provided for by the PF24 path required for the participation in the 'FIT National Competition', a three-year training course for the Internship Entrance Training, provided for by Law 107/2015, c. 181, letter b and by Legislative Decree 59/2017, art. 5, c.1, letters a and b which allows access to teaching roles in secondary schools.
Obviously, students who opt for the 'Teaching of Human Sciences' profile, once graduated, will have the same professional opportunities as those who, in connection with the master's degree in Sociology and Social Research (LM-88), have instead opted for the 'Professional' profile or for the curriculum in 'Crime and deviance'.
In order to access the Degree Course in Sociology, students are required to possess an appropriate study method, basic knowledge relating to the development of contemporary society, as well as fundamental notions relating to the structure of the State, citizenship, and emerging social problems. The Degree Course annually organizes remedial courses aimed at filling any gaps in the requirements necessary for access. The adequacy of the initial preparation is verified through suitable orientation tests concerning general culture, history, elements of civic education in relation to the structure of the State and contemporary society. In particular, the OFAs will be assigned on the basis of the following criterion: score obtained in the SSD SPS/07 on current affairs and social issues as indicated in the announcement for admission to the degree course. Based on the test results, admission to the course will be granted by assigning additional learning obligations (OFA) to students starting from an overall score lower than 18. The learning obligations foreseen in the event that the verification of the knowledge required for admission is not positive will be assigned through additional teaching formulas in the form of seminars in the sectors of the sociological area (in particular SPS/07) in which students will have to participate.
