Course description
1) Classical: education on the origins of European civilisation in the philological-literary and historical-archaeological fields, focusing on the Greek and Roman world, with insights into the ancient Near East and the European Middle Ages. It includes at least one EU language, the ancient languages and their methodologies, as a foundation for further classical studies.
2) Modern: education in literary, linguistic, historical and geographical studies, focusing on European civilisation from its Latin roots to the contemporary age. It develops philological and literary-critical approaches and the ability to access texts in Latin, in the vernacular and in at least one European language, in view of further studies in modern literature, linguistics and history.
3) Contemporary: historical-geographical, linguistic and literary education based on linguistics, Italian literature, geography and history, with a strengthening of modern languages and literatures (French and English). It retains a reference to Greek and Roman civilisation and opens up to interdisciplinary perspectives; it includes applied activities (translation, digital humanities, library science, workshops) and prepares students both for further study and for careers in publishing, cultural communication, journalism and heritage enhancement.
Admission therefore requires an upper secondary school diploma or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable.
An assessment of the knowledge required for admission is carried out.
The assessment procedures, the Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) provided where the assessment is not passed, and the ways in which they must be cleared, are set out in the relevant section of the programme's Teaching Regulations.
OFA may vary according to the track.
