The three-years degree course in Foreign Languages, cultures and literatures will provide theoretical and technical skills in the language, literature and culture of three European and non-European languages. Students will be introduced to the conceptual and technical tools used in the study of language and literature, and to a wide range of critical approaches. From semiotics, literature and history to business and politics, the course provides opportunities to refine critical, analytical and communication skills and explore the mechanics of language and the techniques of writers, and to compare them across regions and periods. Finally, graduates will be able to compare texts, analyze them, and to produce and translate various text types into Italian and into the other foreign languages, ranging from the literary to the journalistic and the essayistic fields.
230 places available.
To enrol in the Foreign Languages, Cultures and Literatures degree programme, applicants must hold an upper secondary school diploma (high school diploma or equivalent qualification). They are only required to sit a non-selective test. The test will assess their general preparation, in accordance with the procedures set out in the call for applications of individual programmes. The test is mandatory, but has no bearing on admission and students can enrol regardless of results. However, depending on results, students may be assigned additional learning credits (Obblighi Formativi Aggiuntivi, OFA) that must be satisfied within the 1st year
Graduates in Foreign languages, cultures, and literature develop a wealth of linguistic, literary and cultural skills useful for placing themselves in a variety of professional settings, especially those requiring a written and oral command of foreign languages accompanied by a solid training in the humanities. In addition, they will have acquired a very good command of techniques of retrieval and management of information from a variety of sources. The main employment opportunities are: - international offices of private companies; - public institutions and organizations operating in international contexts; - organisation of events (fairs, congresses, exhibitions, cultural events); - organization and management of tourist activities; - libraries and exhibition centers; - publishing houses, translation agencies and localization of websites and web portals; - second level of university education (Master's Degree) or with first level vocational masters.
To graduate in Foreign Languages, Cultures and Literatures, students will sit a final examination to verify that they have achieved the learning outcomes of their study programme. Eligible students must produce an original dissertation, written in Italian or foreign language, under the guidance of a supervising professor. The dissertation must be defended publicly in front of the Examination Board.
