The Master's Degree Course in Experimental and Applied Biology represents the natural choice for the deepening of specific skills linked to qualified professional profiles in various sectors of the Life Sciences. The course lasts two years and does not provide access to a limited number. Enrollment in the Course requires the possession of specific curricular requirements and is subject to passing a test to verify the adequacy of personal preparation which will take place within the times and terms that are communicated annually in the relative admission notice. The Master's Degree Course in Experimental and Applied Biology at the University of Salento includes a common path (first and second semester, first year) and a subsequent articulation (third and fourth semester, second year) in the following four curricula: - Agro-food; - Bio-sanitary; - Cellular and Molecular - Human nutrition
The verification of the possession of the minimum requirements (see admittance call) and the adequacy of personal preparation and a good knowledge of the English language will be carried out through an entrance test consisting of an interview with reference to the disciplines of the SSDs that contributed to the possession of the curricular requirements. Upon completion of the admission test, an alphabetical list of those admitted will be drawn up with an indication of the test result (suitable/unsuitable). The number of places reserved for non-EU students: 10 (including 2 for Chinese students).
Candidates must be in possession of a three-year university degree, or other qualification obtained abroad recognized as suitable by the Academic Board of Biology of the University of Salento. See : https://www.scienzemfn.unisalento.it/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=ed129cfb-173b-437f-a589-92b9eea74715&groupId=834089 For admission, the possession of curricular requirements and the adequacy of the student's initial knowledge is also required. This knowledge is that which can be acquired with a first-level degree in Biological Sciences or in Biotechnology at any Italian university.
Graduates in Experimental and Applied Biology can carry out activities for the promotion and development of basic and applied research in the agro-food, bio-health, cellular/molecular, and human nutrition sectors also by carrying out genetic, biochemical, molecular, cytological, morphological, and microbiological on biological samples of various nature and origin. Graduates can access the state exam for registration in the professional register and practice their profession in public and private laboratories or provide consultancy as freelancers. Graduates can access graduate schools, doctoral schools, and second level masters in biological disciplines.
The final test consists of the presentation of the thesis work to a designated commission. The topic must be the result of the experimental activity carried out during an internship period. The thesis work must be carried out under the supervision of a teacher and can be carried out both in university structures and laboratories and in public or private research bodies, in Italy or abroad. The thesis can also be carried out in public or private companies. To the average of the marks obtained in the exams, expressed in 110, up to 7 points are added, at the discretion of the Commission, for the evaluation of the final thesis. Additional points are added for at least 2 exams with a mark of thirty and honors or for the completion of a training internship abroad under the ERASMUS + program or cooperation agreement and equivalent mobility (*).
