The Degree Course in Literature has its own Learning Agreement manager and takes care of internationalization. It offers its students the opportunity to study at the following universities: Spain: Valencia and Valladolid Germany: Greifswald, Saarbrücken, Aachen and Freiburg in Br. Belgium: Liège and Louvain-La-Neuve, France: Aix-Marseille and Anger, Poland: Poznam and Torun, Romania: Bucharest.

Course overview/Course outline

The Degree course in Modern Literature lasts two years and involves the acquisition of 120 credits. The course aims to take special care of specialist training in languages and literatures from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age and advanced knowledge of methodologies, theories and linguistic systems of ancient and modern languages, as well as knowledge of the methodologies specific to the sciences historical and study of the environment and territory. The complex of training activities ensures the acquisition of solid higher level skills in every cultural and professional sector connected with the production, circulation and analysis of texts from the Christian Middle Ages to the contemporary world. The programs are aimed at developing the capacity for independent criticism and personal research, and teach how to exercise it with appropriate scientific and methodological rigor.

Access to the programme

To be admitted to the Degree course in Modern Literature, an initial test must be taken. It consists of an oral interview on the main topics (figures and works of Italian literature; relations between Italian literature and European literatures; aspects and problems of the use of the Italian language and its relationship with the main foreign languages; main facts and figures in the history of 'Italy and Europe from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age), on the methodologies and knowledge that the student must have acquired along the path of the three-year degree in Literature, modern address. The student will be assessed by a commission of six teachers based on LM14. During the Covid emergency period, the talks take place on the Microsoft Teams platform.

Admission Requirements

The entry qualification is a three-year Bachelor's degree in Literature (5L) or a three-year degree obtained in the humanities area. In addition to possession of the qualification, the acquisition of the following ECTS is required: - 8 credits in the SSD L-FIL-LET / 10; - 8credits in the L-FIL-LET / 12 SSD; - 24 credits in the L-ANT / 02 SSDs; L-ANT / 03; M-STO / 01; M-STO / 02; M-STO / 04; - 6 credits in SSD L-LIN / 03; L-LIN / 04; L-LIN / 05; L-LIN / 07; L-LIN / 10; L-LIN / 12; L-LIN / 13; L-LIN / 14 or level B1 of the chosen foreign language; - 14 credits in SSD L-LIN / 01; M-GGR / 01; L-LIN / 04; L-LIN / 08; L-LIN / 09; L-FIL-LET / 11; L-FIL-LET / 13; L-FIL-LET / 14; L-FIL-LET / 15; M-STO / 07. They can also access the Master's Degree in Modern Literature graduates with a four-year Degree in Literature - modern address; they can access too graduates in possession of a four-year degree obtained in the humanities, after converting the exams taken in the four-year period for the purpose of verification into CFU of the acquisition of the above mentioned CFU. Each exam taken during a four-year degree is assessed 12 credits. A personal preparation check is foreseen, in addition to the possession of the curricular requirements; the modalities are defined in the Didactic Regulations of the Degree Course Master

Teacher function in a work context: Graduates who will have sufficient credits in appropriate groups of sectors will be able to participate in the admission tests for secondary education training courses, as required by current legislation: - teaching the Italian language and literature - teaching history and civilization from the ancient to the contemporary era - teaching Latin language and literature skills associated with the function: - know and master the Italian language and literature - know and master the Latin language and literature - know and master ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary history - know and master the IT tools for the production and correction of texts - know and master at least one modern foreign language and literature employment opportunities: - Public primary and secondary schools - Private primary and secondary schools - Bodies and institutes of culture and promotion of the Italian language abroad NotaBene. Access to teaching in Italian public schools is subject to the acquisition of credits in the scientific-disciplinary sectors provided for by the legislation and the qualification to be achieved according to the provisions of the legislation. Official and manager specialized in the protection, promotion and enhancement of historical and cultural heritage function in a work context: - Coordinates, organizes and manages the activities of libraries and archives - Participate in the organization of cultural institutions and activities (museums, exhibitions) - Elaborates and coordinates projects, activities and surveys in the linguistic-cultural sectors in the context of linguistic and integration policies, also at European level. skills associated with the function: - will know and master the Italian language and its structural characteristics - will know and master the Latin language and its literature - will know the history of the ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary world - will know and master the main IT tools for word processing employment opportunities: - Public, private and third sector entities and companies - Cultural foundations - Museums, Libraries and Archives - Italian cultural institutes abroad - Companies specialized in cultural tourism Editorial editor function in a work context: - Carries out various activities in the publishing world; - Prepares and revises texts in the field of medieval and modern literary culture; - Exercises professionally, even at high levels, his writing skills in the journalistic, editorial and advertising fields. skills associated with the function: - will know and master the Italian language and its structural characteristics - will know and master the Latin language and its literature - knows the history of the ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary world - will know and master the main IT tools for word processing employment opportunities: - Companies in the publishing, advertising, professional and journalistic writing sector, including online / web publishing Lexicographer function in a work context: - Coordinates projects and activities in the reference sector; - Collaborates in the creation of dictionaries and works with vocabulary content in general, carrying out investigations and technical research and compiling headwords and entries; - Operates in the sector of linguistic-IT activities, with particular reference to the processing of empirical data. skills associated with the function: - will know and master the Italian language and its structural characteristics - will know and master the Italian language in its historical evolution up to the contemporary world - will know and master the tools useful for linguistic and communicative analysis - will know and master the Latin language and its literature - will know the history of the ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary world - will know and master the main IT tools for word processing employment opportunities: - As an employee and freelancer / consultant, in public, private and third sector companies producing dictionaries and electronic resources; - companies specialized in automatic language processing.

Final exams and graduation

The course ends with a final test called Degree Thesis. It offers the student the opportunity to demonstrate the research and critical analysis, autonomous and original processing skills acquired during his / her master's course. The final exam consists of a written discussion on a topic related to one of the courses followed by the master's student, a discussion to be carried out under the guidance of a supervisor as well as in a critical and original way, in good Italian form and with the help of texts in foreign languages. This thesis is then discussed in the presence of the supervisor, in front of a co-supervisor and the members of the appropriate Commission for the achievement of the title of Doctor of Science.
