The Degree Course in Cultural Heritage (L-1) aims at providing students a basic knowledge that will allow them to work with operational roles (public/private employees and specialized operators, individual entrepreneurs) in the fields of protection, management, and enhancement of Cultural Heritage. It is articulated into three programs focusing on Archaeology, History of Arts and Technologies for Cultural Heritage whose training activities are characterized by an interdisciplinary approach and by a fruitful interaction between humanistic knowledge, sciences, technical skills, basics of economy and law. The course shall provide all incoming students a partly common fundamental knowledge as well as specific skills proper for the different programs. It also encompasses a suitable and balanced spectrum of laboratories, training activities, experiences of curricular internship, and stages purposing at directing students either to their following academic career or to the work opportunities in the field of Cultural Heritage (archaeology, arts, immaterial heritage, landscape, environment, etc.)
The program is open access for both Italian and foreign students. There is no restriction on the number of students enrolled. The student shall be admitted into the degree program after paying the tuition fees and passing a compulsory but not selective assessment test. The checking procedures are indicated in the Course Regulations, published on the course website. Delayed enrollments are admitted but they will entail the assignment of an additional learning requirement (OFA).
Admission to the course requires a high school diploma or other equivalent and approved qualification obtained abroad. Students must possess knowledge adequate to a degree course in matters as Italian language and literature, history, geography (basic topics) as well as in the history of art (characterizing topic). Basic knowledge of computer science, physics, chemistry, and English language (A2 level, at least) is also required. Preliminary knowledge will be assessed through a non-selective test. If the preliminary requirements are not met the student shall be assigned additional learning requirements (OFA), equal to 1 credit, to be achieved during the first academic year.
Graduated students of the course will find employment opportunities in the field of cultural heritage in the broadest sense of the term. They might find positions in the branch of Public Administration concerned with archaeology, monuments, art, and culture as: -Authorities, Museums, Libraries, Theaters. They could also find temporary or permanent professional employment in the private sector in: - Cultural associations, foundations, museums, art galleries - Tourism companies - Institutions concerned in information and cultural dissemination, publishing companies (newspapers, on-line sites, editors). They might work as freelance professionals or entrepreneurs in the aforementioned fields.
To obtain the graduation the student shall write a short thesis or paper (admitted languages: Italian or English) on a topic concerning one of the course modules. He shall agree on the subject with one of the teachers of the course, who shall be his Thesis Supervisor. The final exam consists of the evaluation and discussion of the graduation thesis by an examining commission, made up of three teachers, including the Supervisor. The commission shall assess the work and the academic career of the student and shall assign the degree mark. To pass the degree exam, it is necessary to achieve a minimum score of 66 points.
